How do you like Alabama HC?
And what is the biggest difference good and bad vs Chicago

Bham , home of bad drivers and poor infrastructure. .... is probably his #1 answer.

Lobster.

I mean, I like it.

But after I order it and eat it, I usually realize I probably didn't like it as much as the price I paid for it.

Absolutely love it.

The biggest pros:

  • Weather is an obvious one. Sure it's 10 degrees warmer in the summer but it's 30 degrees warmer in the winter. That's a tradeoff I'll take all day long. No snow is a great thing - I visit the north often enough that I don't miss it.
  • The people really are friendlier. It's not just a rumor.
  • Cost of living is a little better than comparable cities I have lived in - Cincinnati and Milwaukee.
  • Scenery. There are trees and lakes and shit here. In Illinois there are power wires and corn.
  • Topography. There are hills and elevation changes here. Back home when you're driving on the interstate you can see for 30 miles it's so flat. Fuck that.
  • Women with southern accents drive me crazy.
  • Things are cleaner. This comment is specific to the area in which I live, Hoover. Tuscaloosa is a shithole. Downtown B-ham is OK. But the suburb I live in is pretty much immaculate.
  • There are more shopping and eating options within my 3 mile radius than I've ever had within 20. I live right next to one of the biggest shopping center in the Southeast though - so again, this is specific to my exact location. Any store or restaurant you can imagine is within a 5 minute drive.

The biggest cons:
  • People are slow. It takes forever to run a simple errand. No one is in a hurry. This may turn into a pro as I get a little older, but right now I find it annoying.
  • People don't know how to drive. See previous bullet.
  • Traffic around my house can be a bitch cause of the Galleria. It's still nowhere near as bad as Chicago traffic, but for a smallish suburb it's kinda out of hand. Birmingham traffic isn't that bad though.
  • No pro sports anywhere close. Nashville is a 3 hour drive, that's the closest.
  • It's annoying that almost anywhere I want to fly to I have to go through Atlanta or Charlotte. Not too many direct flights to where I need to go out of Birmingham. Although US airways has a direct to Chicago that is reasonable.

I'm shocked you like it so much.
Thought I remember you dreading the move.

One thing you will learn about the South is every state is much different then the next.

Alabama much different then Mississippi. Louisiana much different then Alabama etc.

What I'm saying is there is more simularity between Chicago and Boston then there is one Southern state vs another southern state.

It can even be radically different from one part of a state to another .

Yeah I've noticed that. Hoover has a much different feel than Tuscaloosa, not to mention Alabama vs Georgia. Haven't ventured west but would like to visit Mississippi and Louisiana at some point.

Re: me dreading the move. I don't remember if I did or didn't dread it. If I did I was probably just dreading change and moving so far away from all my friends.
Once I got here I loved it though, and I just keep finding things that I like more and more. I wish I had come down here right after college.

'Bama Crimson Tide Home games just 54 Miles away.

That seems like it'd be interesting Harry.

Might we expect you'll become a supporter of The Tide and be in attendance?

Hell no, I hate Alabama. War Damn Eagle by default.

I would go to a Bama home game, just cause it would be a fun experience. But I would be rooting for the visitors. I have driven by the stadium many times; my company's main Alabama office is in Tuscaloosa.

Chop... you appear to be a good guy. But I can't read any thread you post about food with any respect ever since you posted that you prefer sausage patties over bacon. It was a thread from a year or so ago.

Whats more.. if i remember correctly... JC agreed with you. Both you and JC prefer sausage patties over bacon ?!?!? What the ... ?!?!?

It's blasphemous. And as a result i cant give you any credibity on food related posts. How is the blue f..k could anyone prefer sausage over bacon? How? HOW? HOWWWW?!?!?!?

Man I don't even remember posting that but I must have because I do like party sausage more then bacon.

BUT if the bacon is baked in the oven on alluminum foil.

Then take it out the oven and let it sit on paper towels to drain.

And the bacon has the perfect combo of fat and meat .

And is crispy but not burnt bacon is almost dead even with patty sausage .

Bacon at its best is just as good as sausage.

But sausage at its worst crushes bacon at its worst

Its not possible. He must have been Under The Influence of some Mind Altering substance or forced to make this statement under duress.

He does live in area that produces way more Sausage than it does Bacon. Probably just Towing The Company Line when he said that.

I don't know what it is but for some reason I always think I like hot dogs more then I really do.

I don't eat that kind of shit often but about once every 4 or 5 months I start craving a hot dog.

I totally forget the fact that after I eat one I'm going to say to myself thAt I did not enjoy it but do not realize that till after I eat it.

I do this 3 or 4 times a year.

Why do I tell myself several times a year that I like hotdogs?
Why do I crave them 3 or 4 times a year?

How come I don't realize I don't like them till after I eat them?

I was watching the Nathan's hot dog contest and I've been craving one ever since.

Finally ate one yesterday and I'm like oh yea I don't like hot dogs.

I will probably forget all about not liking them in 3 months and crave one again and will repeat the process over and over again.

Oh man you're fucked in the head... J/K

I believe there is something in your subconscious that asks for the hot dog, perhaps you had a great night or experience on a baseball game night (maybe just reminds you of bb), or simply at a party where hot dogs were served. The taste is not that great but the feeling of eating that disgusting hot dog releases endorphines in your body due to thought and memory association.
