I haven't seen very much of the country. My take is they are liberal, peaceful, and open to Americans.

The country is nearly as large as USA, with like 10% of the population, clean, people don't lock their homes, and arm themselves. They have natural resources, GOV"T leaves you alone, sounds good to me ! Gambling OK ! A lot of taxes, property cheaper, less crime, almost like 1950's USA in some respects !

The only real knock i've heard against Canadians ( from a former LV bartender's point of view) is they tend to be parsimonious when it comes to tipping. I'm considering moving there.

A few corrections:

1. Geographically, Canada is actually a fair bit bigger than the US (Canada is the 2nd largest country in the world, after Russia; I believe the US is 4th largest, after 3rd-place China).

2. Everyone that lives in the city locks their doors. These days, most people that live in the country lock their doors too (although when I was a kid growing up in rural New Brunswick, we usually didn't).

3. For the most part (ignoring the criminal element), the only people that have guns are those that live in the rural areas, and these guns are for hunting, not for personal protection.

4. I would be willing to bet that Canadians don't tip any more or any less than a typical American (generally 10 to 20%).

I always lock my doors. Every minute of every day, the doors are locked. Safety first!

I was referring to locking the door when people leave their house.

But, yeah, when people are still at home, lots of them leave the door unlocked (certainly most of the people in the rural areas, and lots of people in the suburbs, do).

HIYA,

Some facts and some politics. CRTC- Canadian Radio and Television Commission decided in the mid 90's to not make a ruling on the Internet usage. Why? Bell Canada and a few banks own SNS Assure that became sure fire that through Bank of Montreal developed e-comerce for many forms of Internet related businesses (gaming, adult, lottery etc). So They pay allot of taxes and like it that way.

There are many co-location facilities in Canada that allow gaming, adult and all sorts of fun and sinful stuff. None of them regulated.

So, the player can play the computers can be there, but you can talk on the phone or have a business related to gambling without a lisc. and the only ones with the lisc. is the gov't.

And yes, gaming winnings in Canada are tax free.

Oh, and Canada does more business with the USA than all of the EU put together (pulp/paper, fossil fuels, Hydro electric etc)

Depends on where you live. Out on the West coast you might have to pay three times that and over twice the amount if not on the golf course.

We leave the side door open in summer and always unlocked when we are inside. We do lock the front door, mainly so we don't forget to lock it at night before retiring.

We do have an alarm system. The wife feels much better about leaving for 3 months travels with the alarm and a remote monitoring company.
