There may not be a good scientific way for analyzing momentum in sports, but it certainly exists.

All that stuff exists but fans overrate it and use it to justify why teams/players succeed or fail far too often.

And momentum is hard to predict/quantify.

The seahawks had a fumble take away a probable TD and then another fumble early 3rd quarter. Their best stretch of the game came right after that. Wasn’t the momentum with the 9ers?

A steal, fast break, long 3, fumble recovery, interception etc can cause the start of momentum. If it was measurable or easily created then coaches would certainly try to make it occur as often as possible. Anyone who has played sports has seen it first hand. Or even watched a lot of sports one would know when it’s happening.

How many times did Seattle or SF have momentum last night?

Now you have and now you can teach me how to measure momentum.

Look in your wallet if you have a couple Grants when you wake up I'm sure it's a little easier getting out of bed as far as sports as mentioned here many times if you played any sports anyone would know.

BTW.... Enfuego what sports have you played or do you play??

If so, can you explain how it can be measured?
Momentum is absolutely a real thing. It can be measured scientifically by multiplying the mass of an object by the velocity of the object.

Your question of is momentum a real thing? The answer is Yes it is a real thing.

I know you were trying to say is momentum in "SPORTS" a real thing. That is a different question than what you asked. But I will agree with the rest here in that yes momentum is a real thing in sports.

both Scorecasting and Soccernomics tackled "momentum" and "hot players" but found no statistical evidence to support that either really exist. There are natural positive and negative runs that will always meet back at the normal level of play expected.

They both agree though that the better a team or individual are playing the more confident you are and confidence leads to less mistakes and better decision making.

I’m sure Enflameo has tried to argue the “hot” team angle plenty of times here before

I don’t know why any of you guys are answering this clown. He’s not looking for a productive informative debate. He won’t tell you anything informative either...because he has nothing interesting to say....just you’re wrong and he’s right.
