That is true, but to Key's point I believe they align with Mexican Mafia in prison. All the sureno gangs in LA rock the "13"...guy who lives across the street from me is retired OG.....he is a bit old so it is hard to tell if it is a 13 or an 18 that he has tatted on his stomach...lol

actually a good neighbor in many ways....he takes care of an old dude that owns the house he stays in

I have had two experiences where gang members came at me in LA....one time a dude stepped in front of my car on hollywood blvd and just started stacking gang signs..guess my music was a little loud....the scarier time was waiting on a corner after bars closed and we had gone to a dodgers game...had a blue LA shirt on and still had my shades from earlier in the day on my forehead....about four of us were in Atwater (not a really bad area, but still has a fair amount of gang activity) on a corner waiting for a cab at 2:30ish and this car swerves from the middle lane into the gas station we were on the corner of and squealed right up to us as he rolled down his window...def gangbanger.....asked where the fuck we were from (which is what they say before they shoot in many cases) and then paused....then peeled out...all happened so quick..could've been it....you hear about it happening from time to time...."where you from" --- then BANG!

luckily he prob made me for a degen gambler and surfer vs. a gangbanger once he got up close to us

it all happened very quickly and I was pretty drunk....but hell yes if you are asking if I was intimidated once it sunk in....the fact that I was able to get out "just waiting for a cab man".....might have saved one of our lives that night....

if you are asking why I was intimidated it is b/c I value my life and want to see my kids grow up.....folks that are caught up in the gang life have very little to lose and often will not hesitate to shoot first and ask questions later if they think you are a rival in their area or even have just disrespected him

I can hold my own, but dont claim to be superman or fearless by any stretch...certainly not against a gun!!

as i mentioned, my neighbor is in his 60s, but was pretty deep in the scene (he did a short bid two years ago)

some of the local surenos "VSUR13" tagged up some garage doors on my street.

when my neighbor found out he had them clean all that shit up within a week....

so even though he no longer bangs, per se....they still give him a lot of respect since he basically "retired" vs quit the gang from what i can tell

he has some crazy stories though and still rolls with some scary looking dudes...i often go have a beer with him in his garage when waiting for my bookie to come pick up after losing weeks just so my guy knows he best pay me when it is my turn to collect!

We were there about 8 years ago my wife was adamant about going to this shopping centre in the arts district. We took the subway and were the only white peoples on the subway. Everyone was starring at us with disbelief until we got off and then a young female came up to us & said what are you doing on the subway with children.

haha we had no clue it was dangerous nothing bad happened but the lack of white people, on the train was a bit unnerving
