I noticed them on the Fulmer Cup list. It struck me that was your school. No big deal.

Maybe you are bitter because Tenn didn't get Heaps...

Florida Building “Thug U” Reputation

In response to the arrest and tasering of Florida cornerback Janoris Jenkins, the excellent website EveryDayShouldBeSaturday.com (which is run by Florida alums) states that UF is gaining on Miami in the race for the not-so-coveted “Thug U” moniker.

“We’re this close to appropriating the U gesture for ourselves, and lack only a solid cocaine-based arrest to fully detrothing the U of the 1990s as Thug U.”

The site is also home to “The Fulmer Cup” which awards points to schools based on the number of legal issues their players are involved in. Florida, needless to say, is climbing in those standings.

Matter of fact, with Phillip Fulmer now out of the SEC, it might be time to re-name the trophy.

Perhaps “The Meyer Cup.”

Jenkins’ arrest was the 24th for the Gator program during Urban Meyer’s four years in Gainesville. Most schools get tons of negative publicity if they have an off-season that features six arrests.

The Gators have AVERAGED six arrests.

Think media villains John Calipari or Lane Kiffin would get a pass for that kind of arrest record on their watches?

----------------

Read that and smoke it in your pipe ya gainesville geezer.

(CSTV U-WIRE) GAINESVILLE, Fla.—During the next few weeks, expect to see University of Florida football players seated in the front, not the back, of local police cruisers.
In four years, the UF football team has racked up 21 arrests, including nine felonies, and three citations. In light of these numbers, the University Athletic Association and Gainesville Police Department partnered to provide a way for players to see what the other side of law enforcement is like.
Football players can volunteer to attend a ride-along with GPD officers between 5 p.m. and 4 a.m., the department’s busiest hours, said GPD spokesman Lt. Mike Schibuola.
“Students get arrested every weekend, but student-athletes get more attention,” he said, adding that the arrest rate is similar for both groups. According to Schibuola, about 25 students are arrested every weekend, usually for possession of alcohol by a minor or underage drinking.

In April 2007, former offensive guard Ronnie Wilson was arrested on charges of battery and discharging a firearm in public, an incident that sparked the phrase “University of Felons in Gunsville, Fla.” to be used by Gator critics.
Wilson reportedly spat on someone outside of a Gainesville nightclub, took an AK-47 assault rifle out of the trunk of a car and fired it into the air.
After two charges for marijuana possession and a misdemeanor for battery and assault, Wilson was kicked off the team.
Earlier this month, starting cornerback Janoris Jenkins was Tasered and arrested after fighting five people outside of a Gainesville nightclub.
Steve Russell, radio personality for AM 850’s “Sport Scene,” feels the arrests of Florida football players has been sensationalized.
“In the summer, stories that might not be a big deal in the heat of competition become a little more blown up because there is nothing going on,” Russell said.
Still, Russell does not excuse the rate of UF football player arrests.
“Bottom line, there are probably too many, and it is the head coach’s responsibility to help make it better,” Russell said.

When the local Habitat For Humanity needed some extra muscle on a home project in Troy, they reached out to the Troy University football team for help.

The Trojans responded in a big way.

Senior starting quarterback http://www.troytrojans.com/ViewArticle.dbml?SPSID=87288&SPID=10377&DB_OEM_ID=17200&ATCLID=1147126Levi Brown (Mt. Juliette, Tenn.), senior receiver http://www.troytrojans.com/ViewArticle.dbml?SPSID=87288&SPID=10377&DB_OEM_ID=17200&ATCLID=1065333Zack Marcum (London, Ky.), junior defensive end http://www.troytrojans.com/ViewArticle.dbml?SPSID=87288&SPID=10377&DB_OEM_ID=17200&ATCLID=1523258Mario Addison (Birmingham, Ala.), sophomore punter http://www.troytrojans.com/ViewArticle.dbml?SPSID=87288&SPID=10377&DB_OEM_ID=17200&ATCLID=1147266Will Goggans (Douglas, Ga.) and freshman linebacker http://www.troytrojans.com/ViewArticle.dbml?SPSID=87288&SPID=10377&DB_OEM_ID=17200&ATCLID=1523245Jacoby Thomas (Mobile, Ala.) all reported to the site on Holland Alley in Troy on Tuesday and went to work.

The extra muscle was needed to unload framing for a new home being built for Stacy Fayson and her family.

Maggie Uphaus, who took the photos of the guys at work, said they came at just the right time.

“They needed people to help move the pre-assembled walls off of the truck and, when I got there, there was only one man and the woman who is receiving the house,” Uphaus said. “A call went out to the coach (strength coach http://www.troytrojans.com/ViewArticle.dbml?SPSID=87288&SPID=10377&DB_OEM_ID=17200&ATCLID=942239Richard Shaughnessy) and he was able to get the guys to come out and help.

“Without them, moving the house would've been practically impossible.”

Troy head coach http://www.troytrojans.com/ViewArticle.dbml?SPSID=87288&SPID=10377&DB_OEM_ID=17200&ATCLID=936015Larry Blakeney said he is always proud when members of the team go out into the community, no matter what they are doing.

“I didn’t even know about this deal until the kids came back into the office all geeked up about where they had been and what they had been doing,” Blakeney said. “They were proud that they were able to do something good for the community and good for a family that needed the help. Things like that always make me proud of them.

Blakeney said the Trojans are often asked to take part in various activities, and they are almost always able to do what is asked.

“A lot of our kids are involved in the community, whether it is in the schools or Big Brothers/Big Sisters or whatever,” Blakeney said. “There is never a request that comes in that they don’t do. They go read in schools and play with kids at recess, they have done it all. They don’t do it to get credit, they do it because it makes them feel good.”

The Habitat for Humanity project on Holland Alley, just off Griffin and Elm Streets, is ongoing in Troy, and volunteers to help complete the project will be needed throughout the weekend.

To get involved with Habitat for Humanity in Pike County, give them a call at 334-372-7578.

Dodd's take on our arrests....http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/story/11864091

Coaches will take their chances with media criticism anytime. You probably don't know that 43 percent of the Gators have at least a 3.0 GPA. Or that all 13 seniors from 2008 graduated.

"It's not news," Meyer said sarcastically.

Actually, it's not news. Players are supposed to graduate and get good grades. A soaring arrest total is the car wreck that makes us slow down and gawk. Never mind that Meyer recruited only 15 of the 24 players or that, according to the Gainesville Sun, the arrest rate is generally even with that of the of the general student population.

If those clowns were in L.A, half of them would be dead. People don't take any crap from athletes in L.A. "Raise some crap with me and I'll blow your brains out" is the general attitude in L.A. Being a retired cop, I can tell you that we didn't pussy foot around with the athletes either, like they do in Florida. Resist, and you get a serious ass kicking and face pounding. You guys in Florida are soft.
