If Gore would have gotten away with stealing the election there would be a major "splitting" of the country. Asking a few questions of the job applicant would tip off an interviewer if you were a demi or a republican, and would in many cases, mean a job or no job. I know the ACLU wouldn't hire me today, even if I were a lawyer.

Since I started posting in this forum, I've seen a limited number of people wish violence on other members here.

FLOYD has wished death on several members and/or their families.

SODIUMP has done likewise.

That one guy (Captain? NOT CoCaptain) has wished death on anyone Muslim.

And HANSEN's signature line implies that he believes we should invade France and start killing their citizens.

But otherwise, it's not such a 'hated' discussion in here as it is a 'heated' discussion.

Oh and the notion of civil war within the USA is concievable, but I believe extremely unlikely as I believe that the vast majority of my friends and neighbors - regardless of political differences - would not murder each other to achieve their desired political ends.

I mean, there's some political jacka$$es in here...

but we wouldn't take up arms against them to force them to our beliefs.

Cyber posturing by self styled tough guys is a long way from actually fighting a "civil war". Posters like jointpleasure, Floyd, Captain, El Diablo, Hansen Bros., and a few others are all Keyboard Kowboys, statments like Thankfully, given the dynamics of the the two groups in question, it would end quickly, but not without some bloodshed are just moronic bluster from cowards hiding behind their computer screens. Face to face with a real man, I doubt highly if there would be any such posturing.

...can't foresee a civil war coming in this country, either...

too much apathy in the political arena for enough people to get together and want to kill each other on a mass state vs state scale....

any violence that would break out would be of the riot variety, in which case the police step in to break it up, worse case scenario the national guard.....then the authorities go about the process of sorting out criminal charges against people suspected of criminal activity during the riot....

less civilized coutries have civil wars because they start throwing armies at each other.....calmer heads would prevail in the US before anything near a civil war could develop..

It wouldn't be two "sides" fighting one another; it would be just like the last go 'round -- one side would finally get tired of trying to influence the other and break away from the union, and the union would then attempt to kill every man, woman and child on that side and burn it to the ground as punishment.

The previous civil war stewed for decades before the lid popped off. Up to the very moment it started very few people seriously believed it was going to come to that. Some historians and students of history (among them myself) believe that the entire tragedy could have been averted if Buchanan had become president one term sooner -- he made great strides towards restoring confidence in the union during his term as president, but it was just too little too late.

And then we could have done without Lincoln, and the country today would be a far better place for having not suffered his scourge.

Actually, I really don't think a civil war is possible. My buddy did an internship in Washington, D.C. He said that Democrats and Republicans play softball together and are even friends, even though their political views differ so much. James Carville is a strong voice for the Democratic party, yet his wife is a staunch Republican. I have close friends that I can't agree with on anything politically, but it's not an issue unless we're talking about it. There are definitely exceptions, but I think in general, we can all agree to disagree on certain things.

That's true Illini, but as I said the original Civil War was decades in the making.

One thing about Dems and Reps hanging out together etc. A friend of mine on a forum once made a very profound observation about online bickering festivals, by posting up letters between Colonial era American politicians, military leaders, businessmen etc. ... letters that were discussing some very deep and divisive issues, between men who would just a few years off be aiming guns at one another ... yet they were at all times civil and courteous in their communications. I've tried (and failed mind you) to be an overall courteous person in my various online debates and idea swapping over the years; I'm just extremely easy to wind up -- a flaw not of the winder but of the wound, and one on which I need to work.

there is hatred here and in our nation. The US needs to stop the flow of immigrants or we are doomed.

Lol!

First of all the U.S. is a nation made up of immigrants. Secondly immigration is just like drugs and abortion, you simply can't stop it so turn efforts towards more viable solutions.

There is real hatred in this board and it makes for good catharsis. For example: Demarco you piece of shit. We need to stop the flow of drivel that is coming out of your mouth. We are doomed because of the lack of intelligence by posters like yourself. Why don't you do something right and tell me were a fellow citizen of the world, can get a good top of the line green card. I've already bought a social security number all I need is a green card just in case the hypocritical american employers that are exploiting me ask for one. Thanks
