Do these " get me out of here" trades ever work for the team receiving the " star"

There is a reason it didn't work out playing with another star. What makes this different??

I can’t believe Mark Cuban would go for this, he seems pretty smart on Shark Tank and this seems like a deal he would say he was out…

We see owners all the time with all the business sense in the world but make horrible sports franchise decisions left and right. In fact, most of these billionaires make horrible draft and trade decisions.

Traded alot for a guy who is a free agent in 3 months.

I mean I get the trade for Cuban. You have a chance to put a supreme talent next to Luka.

Not as if they have to pay Irving right now. Take him as a rental and see what happens.

Risk/reward is about right. Gave up a wing that is limited offensively but gifted defensively, a point guard that is the flip of that and a 1st rounder----who knows what that becomes. Philly with all their losing and all their high picks got, Michael Carter-Williams, Nerlens Noel, Embiid(got very lucky he got hurt in college otherwise would have ended up with Jabari Parker), Jahill Okafor, Ben Simmons and lastly Fultz. So even with the top top picks can still be a crap shot of huge misses.

So if Irving sucks---which for him will be not playing and going insane on social media---you go "o well, next!"

I am not an Irving fan by any stretch but I do this trade also if i am dallas.

Edit: the hope is he busts his butt the rest of the season to get the contract and you make it to NBA Finals. Even if you give me the big contract after and he returns to the guy he has always been---you can probably still move him. Hell Westbrook got moved team to team until Lakers ended up holding the bag and Westbrook's play is back from the dinosaur league.

Nets will be better and the Mavs will be worse. Not too complicated.

No way Nets owner was going to allow Kyrie to get his way to LA. Put his conspiracy loving ass in Texas and watch a white man dominate the ball 70% of the time. Hilarious. Respect to Nets management.

70 percent? You mean the times Luka is a little banged up. I would put it at 85-90 percent when healthy. :)

Luka has a few more years of getting love. If he doesn't reach the NBA Finals in the next 3 seasons the "White Harden" talk will start---Not that being James Harden is bad(the dude is a 1st ballot HOF without question) but obviously in the context it will be used-----it's not complimentary.

Yeah I agree. But I think it’s actually justified. Maybe not the championship. But they addressed the lack of height issue this year from last year. They now are giving him another superstar. Luka is a great player but I will tell you why he will never win a title in the nba….it’s not anything you will ever see in the box score. It’s basketball 101. Running back on defense. I’ve never seen anyone in the history of basketball complain more than him instead of running back and leaves his team in a 4 on 5 situation. You certainly don’t see it from winning superstar players on a regular basis. It has something to do with the European style I’m sure and how they talk to refs. And I know Jason Kidd has tried to reduce it, but it’s who he is. Now, at least he doesn’t make it a spectacle and take off completely. He will just half ass run back on defense instead. Jordan didn’t do that. Kobe didn’t do that. Lebron doesnt do that. Dirk didn’t do that. He will never win a title with that attitude.

Plus the greater the circumstances the more the complaining lol. He will never win a title mark my words. Only way is if he leaves and joins a super team but him being the star do it all player he won’t win one.

Luka can win one, he's a damn good player

This could be a good step for them, if they are able to build out the rest of the roster with some size/defensive ability in the offseason.

Honestly they could benefit from a Gobert type of guy, and I am not a fan of him....

Cuban actually gets weirdly cheap at times and makes a lot of irrational decisions.(maybe what also makes him a genius in actual business)

Remember he had Dirk and then let Nash walk(thinking Nash wasn't worth paying). Then the last season of Nash or maybe the season after he goes and over-pays for Antonie Jameson and Antonio Walker.

Then he has Luka and Brunson and once again gets cheap because he doesn't think Brunson is worth it. Now brings in an even more expensive player less than a year later...

His decisions don't make sense. Not like Nash or Brunson were old---both young guys he let walk. Brunson for nothing and I don't remember if they traded Nash or also let him walk for nothing. Cuban does get weirdly cheap considering his worth. Both guys Mavs had their bird rights. So it was basically strictly financial.
