Still, you have the desire to post.

If your not interested, who cares?

MANY people do, as wrestling is very popular at many Universities...............especially in Oklahoma, NY, Minnesota, Wisconson, and of course, Iowa.

You forgot Lehigh, Pennsylvania....

20-8, 2 to go.

BLOWOUT!

ISU will need two falls(pins) just to tie...........

It could happen, as they have the #1 and #2 nationally ranked wrestlers respectively going for them in these final matches.

be a hell of a rematch in the Finals.

College wrestling’s all-time attendance record fell Saturday night.

College wrestling’s top-ranked team did not.

No. 1 Iowa won six matches, sweeping three bouts that were decided in the final minute to beat second-ranked Iowa State 20-15 in front of 15,955 at Carver-Hawkeye Arena – the largest crowd in NCAA dual meet history.
The victory – Iowa’s 19th in 20 tries in the building against the Cyclones – didn’t come easy or pretty for the Hawkeyes (9-0).

Iowa needed a last-second reversal from third-ranked Alex Tsirtsis, a rugged second-period ride from Ryan Morningstar and a third-period takedown from Phil Keddy to extend its dual winning streak to 23 straight.

“We wrestled like every other team in the country tonight,” said ninth-ranked Morningstar, a 2-0 winner at 165 against No. 3 Jon Reader. “We need to widen the gap, we need to build our leads and we need to get more bonus points.”

Although it was a historic night for wrestling – the previous attendance record was set in 2002 when Minnesota put 15,646 in the seats at the Target Center for a dual with Iowa – it wasn’t a signature performance for the Hawkeyes.

NCAA champion Brent Metcalf rolled up 11 takedowns in a 26-10 technical fall against West High product Mitch Mueller at 149 pounds. But Iowa couldn’t find bonus points elsewhere, while the Cyclones picked up major decisions from Nick Fanthorpe (133), Cyler Sanderson (157) and Jake Varner (197), along with a win from heavyweight David Zabriskie.

“You want to go out and give the fans a reason to come back,” said third-ranked Keddy, who won a 3-2 decision at 184 against freshman Jerome Ward. “Winning does that, but you also want to make it entertaining.”

Iowa fans certainly weren’t complaining about the ending or the outcome.

The Hawkeyes took the drama out of the dual by claiming six of the first eight matches, getting victories from Charlie Falck (125), Tsirtsis, Morningstar, Jay Borschel (174) and Keddy to go with Metcalf’s lopsided win.

“We absolutely don’t want to lose in front of this crowd,” Metcalf said. “It was good, not good enough, though. ... I think we need to get to the point where we’re not (just) winning anymore, but we’re separating ourselves from the rest of the country and from a rivalry like this.”

The Hawkeyes knew they were in for a tussle, though, after Fanthorpe 12-2 victory against returning NCAA finalist Joe Slaton.

“(Former Hawkeye) Mark Ironside said it best on the radio – if we can have a performance like this and come out with a win…,” Iowa coach Tom Brands said. “I’ll tell you right now, this guy right here doesn’t feel like we won that meet, even though on the scoreboard there’s something there and Tsirtsis winning that close match and that’s the big win for Morningstar, so there are positives. There’s positives with the guys that got beat, there’s even positives at 133.

“We’ve got another guy there in reserve who’s champing at the bit. If Dan Dennis would’ve made that call, he would’ve went out there and wrestled. It wasn’t a situation where we weren’t going with him because he’s not confident. It was not the right call. Joe Slaton spent too much time on weight control this week and I know better as a coach.”

Iowa went down to the wire with its decision on who to send to the mat against fifth-ranked Fanthorpe before Brands opted to use returning NCAA finalist Joe Slaton, who defeated Fanthorpe twice last season, rather than No. 11 Daniel Dennis.

Slaton scored a takedown 27 seconds into the match. But the weight issues that cost him competition time in the early season seemed to surface later in the period when he started to tire.

“We go right up to the end, you’re back and forth, you’re watching the warm-up, you’re watching how he’s progressing,” Brands said. “The bottom line is you have to realize there was too much time spent on weight control this week.”

Fortunately for the Hawkeyes, Tsirtsis and Morningstar held up.

Third-ranked Tsirtsis scored on a lightning-quick sweep single-leg shot in the first period, but he needed a reversal just before the buzzer to win a 4-2 decision against No. 2 Nick Gallick at 141 that created an ear-splitting roar from the Iowa crowd.

Iowa State coach Cael Sanderson didn’t dispute the call.

“It was real close,” he said. “I thought I saw a second left in the corner of my eye because I was watching pretty closely too.”

“I heard the buzzer go off just as I got out,” Tsirtsis said. “I thought I had the reversal and I felt myself cover him and heard the buzzer go off and saw the ref award it. It was pretty exciting, but I kind of fell into his match at the same time. It’s exciting to get a win like that in the environment we were in, but Brands was just talking in the (team) meeting about building off it and start widening the gap.”

Morningstar’s 2-0 win against No. 3 Jon Reader wasn’t as dramatic, but it was every bit as important for the Hawkeyes. The ninth-ranked junior rode Reader for the entire second period, fighting out of several tough positions by hanging on for stalemates that whittled down the clock.

“I wasted too much time there where I could’ve been taking it out of him on top,” Morningstar said. “I think I took it out of him on top when he was having trouble trying to get away. But I want to take it out of him when I’m riding hard and building.”

Borschel and Keddy assured the Cyclones they wouldn’t get out of Carver-Hawkeye Arena with a win in front of the record-breaking crowd.

“That’s a great atmosphere there,” Cael Sanderson said. “You get to wrestle in front of the largest crowd in NCAA history, that’s pretty cool. It was a great opportunity for our wrestlers to go out there and wrestle in a tough arena and that preparation is priceless, really. We’re grateful for that opportunity.”
