If you live outside the US for at least 11 months out of the year, you are exempt on paying taxes for up to 90k. And these days with the internet, a lot of businesses can be run from anywhere.

But don't you have to pay taxes to the country you live in?

Depends on the country. CR has 13% sales tax but no income tax. Plus property tax is a fraction of what it is in the States.

I have a house in the mountains on an acre lot and pay about $800 a year. I don't even have to pay that until I sell the house if I don't want to.

so, ex-pats enjoy all the benefits of U.S. citizenship, just don't have to pay income tax up to 90k? Is that because ex-pats are theoretically not using roads, bridges, and other public utiliites? Trying to figure out the reasoning behind allowing people to maintain their citzenship, while not having to pay income tax (or viutually no income tax). Seems strange, but maybe I'm missing something

US citizenship pretty much allows you to go anywhere in the world you want

and come back to US whenever you want

whereas not the case for many others

i might leave at some point but i'm not gonna give up my citizenship and maybe some day i'll return after the dust settles :)

I would think that would be the reason. As Tiz points out having an American passport is a benefit. That's really the only one I can think of.

As you can see, the bottom 50% of income earners pay almost
ZERO income taxes in this country.

But, Obama the socialist wants to send them all a government
check - taken from the people that pay taxes.

It's steal from the rich, and give to the poor and lazy.

Absolute rubbish.

Obama isnt sending out a paycheck to any one stop insulting people's intelligence.
At best you get a tax credit (which you deduct from your taxes or reduces the tax collected)

Absolutely no one is getting paycheck. Take those bogus lies and feed them to trailer park idiots.

I dont think you will find to many people here to buy your crap. (those that are stupid enough to believe this crap, voted twice for bush and probably already voted for Mccain and are out at palins rallies calling for OBama's head on a stick!)

Astutely rebuked, PICCOLO

When President, Obama will of course not be able to send anyone in America any kind of "check".

Tax "rebate checks", tax credits etc can only occur if introduced and passed by the United States Congress.

Anyone who is honestly worried about either tax increases or tax reductions in the coming four to eight years needs to be putting their focus on who is elected to Congress, rather than making up silly shit about either Obama or McCain.

How is he going to do this? By taxing the people that employee them? Causing them to lay people off, etc, etc, etc

Don't even bother...they can't figure that part out.

They think tax revenues can be raised without any consequence.

It's a Dem thing.

Not one word about economic growth...thats what solves problems...not these taxation shell games.

Although the sales tax thing is not too bad, but it discourages consumption in favor of savings.

:nohead:

Post of the year. You should probably get a seat in McVain or Obamas cabinet with this one. Yhea, lets discourage savings and keep spending. Not a good thing at all.

Have you not learned a lesson after the constant beatings i have given you on this subject since you arrived? AS IF the Republicans are above this shit? Purly partisan bullshit that is self defeating. This type of thinking is the exact reason OB is killing McCain, fiscal conservatives arent welcome in the Republican party anymore. You reap what you sew.
