It was SDB GLOBAL then and a more respected outfit back then. After the owner was arrested, the place was sold and became SBG....

Sportbet and Island was around then.

When I moved to Costa Rica at the end of the 1996/97 Football season there was only 4 other books. Caribi (Now Cris) Tradewinds, Sdb global (now sbg) and what is now Cascade. Before we went online BlueMarlin was a phone in book only. Tradewinds had the walk up window in the Delray that we took over the next year. ABC islands moved here and Regency opened along with The origanal Betmaker (then called GSC)The following year both Nasa's moved here as did the Island/sportbet group and way to many more to list. That was the begging of sportsbooks in Costa rica.

In 1997 the only three books in Oficentro La Sabana were Tradewinds, Caribi (CRIS), and Pelican (Jazz). In those years, the guy who was the biggest surprise and made the most money was the owner of Global Sports. He sold the book and made a ton of cash but he was the first to truly recognize the Internet. He actually had a bank account in Costa Rica closed because he was making too many deposits. Those were also the years when Monti was shooting at the US embassy.
The first offshore sportsbooks I remember were ESB (Jamaica and Pennsylvania), Intertops (Austria), Socco (any island that would take him), Frankie Mastreano, and the team of George and Roger. The last duo were the roots of Heritage, Horizon, Tradewinds, Pinnacle, and I have heard that Lenny (Cascade) may have worked there for awhile many years ago.

Good Luck to you all

It's too bad the posts prior to 2003 can't be found. I was posting in 1997... would love to see some of that old stuff.

You reminded me of a long time back, you got those people pretty well pegged, the Global Sports people went as legit as could get after selling to Sportsbetting USA, Monti was a riot to work for and learn MLB of off while picking up horse knowledge.... Those days are gone.. I remember FBI HOTDOG vendors in front of the building... hilarious...

Any one remember COASTAL?
