This is way ot but I am going to say it, and in spite of our differences, I would bet that fpp/sbd agrees with me on this one.
Anyways a person who has been investing actively on my own for around 52 years, I am convinced that the stock market is
controlled by a relatively few people, who in conjunction with some major market makers both when the market goes up and
down and especially in a big way.
One doesn't have to look far to evidence with these huge moves to the upside and right afterward to the downside and sometimes
on the same day.
I mean a few days ago the Dow had its worst day of the year finishing down 800 points.
Yesterday it finished down around 180 or 190 points after being up earlier around 500-600 points.
Today as I write this it is up 650 points and has been going up all day.
My point is that in spite of the Ukraine situation, I just don't buy that the reasons for the huge gyrations in both directions
for mot apparent reasons.
For example, how can one explain an 800 point down day followed by almost the same news?
What caused the initial 800 point plunge in the first place and then what happened to almost reverse it two days later??
As I hinted at above, imo the market for the most part is rigged for a relative few people.
Also as I see it, some of the market makers are well schooled in psychology and in preying upon people's emotion when there is
volatility.
Rather than to go into great detail, lets just when the market is rising quickly, these mm's knowing full well that some people
want to buy a certain stock and are in a rush to do so, will feed upon the existing mentality of "get me in at any price"
and rip off those people by inflating the stock price.
Conversely, when the market plunges, these same mm's will take advantage of the now "get me out at any price"
and buy the stock from the stockholder at a ripoff price.
In the second case, when the fix is in and the market starts to rise again, the mm's will profit by taking the stock they bought
at the ripoff low price and then charge the person who wants to buy the stock at another inflated/ripoff price.
Can I prove it??
The answer is obviously no.
That said, based on my many years of experience in the market and even longer in the game of life itself, imo this
is how the market operates for the most part, meaning that one who wants to invest in the market has to realize that'
he isn't getting fair shake most of the time, and in addition to being in the right stocks, has to accept what I just stated
as being part of the game!!
ps I should also mention that with some of these privileged folks and the mm's, there is collusion and shorting,
some legal and some illegal to drive the prices down as well as short-covering when the market starts to go up.
