Here's exactly what will happen. Mark it now.
The DC Circuit will issue their ruling in 1–2 weeks summarily and totally rejecting (and rebuking) the notion that the President has immunity from prosecution UNLESS they are impeached first. If that's true, why did Nixon resign and need to be pardoned? There’s nothing in any law or even the Constitution that suggests such a thing. Trump and his lawyers just made that all up because he’s trying to delay his inevitable conviction in the DC insurrection trial. That’s it. It's on hold while this appeal plays out. That's all this is.
Trump will appeal immediately to SCOTUS.
SCOTUS will 100% for sure *REFUSE* to hear the case and the DC Circuit's decision becomes the law of the land.
Judge Chutkan steps in again, resumes the trial, reschedules his new trial date for maybe late March now instead of March 4. Trial lasts 6–7 weeks. Trump will be convicted sometime in June or early July, with sentencing to prison in August or early September. That should then also satisfy the MAGA morons who fancy themselves constitutional scholars and insist a conviction must occur first, too (even though we all know it won't).
