most of these comments I've seen is such generic advice..

I know that there has been some good conversations on this subject in the past, ill try to search when I get some time tonight..

I'd say be who you are.. know your clientele, know your area, everything you do should be with your clientele in mind.. if you can get a particular niche, maybe whiskey bar, maybe its martinis, whateever appeals to your demographic, do it and do it well. dont try to appeal to the masses. The best bar for the demographic maybe not be what you consider a perfect bar either...
I really think the business trend in major cities is having a throughout theme or niche. I guess that's more restaurants than bars though...

Anyways, Youll never be short on opinions. I'm sure everyone thinks they can run a successful bar including me lol

Wish you huge success. and keep us updated

A must, at least in Wisconsin, is slot machines (for entertainment purposes only, wink, wink). Can have up to five and it's only a misdemeanor charge if the cops bust you. Six or more is a felony. Set the machines to pay out at highest percentage (80 cents on the dollar). Have enough cash on hand to pay out winners immediately. If you have a steady flow of customers, you don't have to worry about anything else. They will pay for all expenses.

Very profitable if you can keep your employees from stealing and giving stuff away. Still part owner in one lounge and it makes the 3 of us at least 10-30k each, per month depending on the season.

They have these in Illinois and they're actually legal now.

Legal vid poker and blackjack at the bar...would be disastrous for me if I was still living in bars.

first rule of thumb....hire the dumbest people you can find. they are to dumb to steal, and if they do, you'll catch them, because they are Dumb Asses. Also stage a mock beating of what happens when you steal.

Good stuff!!!
