i wish construction was still like that. I have been in it for 2 years now and my dad was in it from like 83-93 and he told me of some crazy shit they used to do. Now he owns his own company and i work for him but he has told me some crazy stories like smoking joints on the roof of a job or get as much done as they could from like 7-11 then head to the closest bar and just get fucked up all day. now their are General's walking around supervising like a hawk all day and you can never get away with anything like that anymore... construction sounded a lot cooler back in the day
Oh yeah, Sure the Fuck was in the 80's ! It was casual ( at least in Calif.), often done on a piecework basis. By that, I mean you take on jobs and get paid by the job.
They be building 400 condos in Del Mar ( over a year or so), you install the ductwork for them... you get it done...deal with the project manager yourself...don't let him down... you don't see your (company) boss for months... you call in to order materials...they leave your ass alone...they don't care if if you drink, smokepot, snort coke, whatever !
It's like the on-site manager (Super)of all trades tells me :
Doug: I need lots #123-127 ready for the building inspector on Monday !
I tell him no problem, it will be ready, Joe !
Do that a few times, and Joe lets me do whatever the FUCK ,I want. He doesn't call my boss to complain about anything, my boss never even stops by the jobsite anymore... if anything I wind up snorting lines of coke with these guys.
I can smoke weed, snort lines, drink beer, hire Mexicans,whatever...don't even have to hide it... just get it done on time... that's all that mattered !
The good old days of construction.
