BTW - did a study on Italians for college back in the mid 70's - everyone knows that WOP means WithOut Papers, but what about Guinea?
The word "Guinea" came from England - during the great migration from about 1980 to abouit 1910, when metzo giorno (not half a day, but the "other half", meaning southern peasants) left Italy. Large numbers went to the US, Canada and Argentina - but a bunch of them also went to England where they worked mostly sea port cities such as Liverpool for about a third the avarage wage, or about a Guinea a week. The doughboys picked up the term from the tommies during WWI.
Not really relevant to the post, but interesting.
