and when you see a black person your first instinct isn't to run your ass off.

ok you are bitching that Reagan had no compassion in your opinion but you say that this is how you feel about black people outside of Canada?

LOL too much of that liberal coolaid has gotten to your head.

Clinton wasn't left-wing when it came to the economy; he for the most part kept the policies that Reagan implemented.

You are right when you say Presidents don't have as much say over the economy as one would expect, but Reagan was the exception. The economic conditions were so bad at the time that he was able to make a major impact on the US economy. Lowering taxes (imagine how much technological development would have occurred if there was still a 70% tax rate in place) and deregulation (some that Carter started) shifted the economy out of neutral and into gear.

mizike, obviously you haven't been on a walk through one of a city's ghettos? feal pretty safe there or what? Ever been to a hip-hop club? take it from me, there's a lot of reverse racism out there. then when you see a high-school kid dressed up all gangsta and shit you don't know if he's a real gang-banger who would kill you for 2 dollars or not.

Hey OREN, I've agreed with your perceptions in the few posts I've seen.

But here's my reassurance that the number of people who will 'kill you for two dollars' could be fit into a phone booth, in terms of who you're likely to see in any neighborhood, rich or poor.

If you are no threat to others, then no one will be a threat to you.

Well yeah, I sound cocky, but I respect reality.

Though since I stopped associating with violent people (heavy alcohol users mostly) it's held up pretty well.

Should have seen me last fall on the subway up to that South Bronx to go visit some friends who work up there.....Only grain of salt in a pepper shaker once we crossed the river. Or so it seemed til I got around a bit.

The SheBar meanwhile, born&bred NYC girl, would have nothing to do with that trip and stayed at sisters house in safety of Long Island...heh

"""Ronald Reagan won the Cold War. He bet that American industry could outproduce and outspend the Russians, and it worked. We have a whole generation that can actually go a day without thinking that tomorrow, the ground they stand on could be a glassy plain."""

thank you,superstar.....nice to know that one person in this sad excuse for a political forum`s consciousness is based in some semblance of reality ......

facts are hard to come by around here.......bitterness and vitriol usually overwhelm any meaningful dialogue...

bravo...

to ans. your? yes ive been to ghettos, lived in both Coconut Grove, Miami Fla 2 blocks from the most dangerous street corner in America, Based on # of crimes reported there (early 90's cant remember exact yr.), and I lived in Patterson NJ another "wonderfully safe neigborhood"
yes ive been to hip hop clubs
yes i have seen kids dressed in gansta shit
NO I do not get scared when i see a black person.
Yes i agree with you on the reverse racism issue but i still think black people have more to fear from "da man" than we do from "da brothers"
Western White man has been the most destructive force on the planet, I fear Johnny Appleseed and his lifetime NRA card carrying ass and confederate flag bumper sticker on his F150 far more than Latesha from down da block.

lol fair enough. I'm as white as they come and I've experienced a bit of hostility from minorities from time to time, they call me "white boy" and make fun of how I dress, so, when I get out of my Landcruiser and see a kid with baggy sports clothes and one of those tight head wrap things, a beedie? on, I think you can understand that I'm a little bit afraid that I'm gonna get jacked. And it wouldn't be the first time, I've been mugged by a gang of 12 year old hispanic kids for my bus fair before.

It seemed to aimed specifically at american whites when I was in the US.

If you went into a place full of black guys it would go a bit quiet until you ordered a beer/food, and they would realise you were non-american from your accent and not bother anymore.

I don't believe the President is ever solely responsible for anything that happens in the world - regardless, when Reagan was in great things happened for the US and he deserves credit - just like Clinton deserves credit for 8 great years too - it's like being the head coach of a team - if the results are positive then you did a good job - JUST LIKE IF THE RESULTS HAVE BEEN HORRIBLE FOR 4 YEARS YOU DESERVE TO BE FIRED (GWB).
