Well then shouldn't we spend large sums of money preparing to defend ourselves from alien beings since the consequences of being wrong are far greater than being right? And if you agree with that concept, how much of our earth's resources should we dedicate to preparation given that said aliens may be capable of destroying our planet all together?

Is it bad form to quote myself? It's hard not to when I express the point so well: "The manifest difference between my example and yours is that mine stays within a wholly integrated domain--science--whereas you seek to extend the analogy to the ridiculous. If, on the other hand, you wish to argue that science as a whole should be rejected then you've already said enough."
