This thread does bring up a point since we are talking about Wal-Mart which is why does Wal-Mart even exist in rural areas of the United States or even suburban areas of the United States? These are supposed to be heavy Republican areas that claim to be all about America, America, and more America first and that they are somehow true patriots more than others......Seems like a contradiction and their actions do not back up their words.

In my town, there are 2 Walmart super centers & they're both in the suburbs.......in fact, I've never seen a Walmart outside of the suburbs in any town I've been to.......although I think I've seen 1 or 2 out by the country side in a town.

You would think these would be closer to cities, hmm......

Hey ak.

How many companies are making arrangements not to have to pay anyone any benefits.

All these part timers will be "underemployed" but not show up in unemployment stats.

Who do you think will pay their health care?

I have lived in a poor country where there is no big discount retailer like Walmart and the way it works is local businesses gouge the shit out of people because of the lack of competition....... and people pay huge prices for very low quality goods. Walmart is a huge help for poor people..... anyone who has lived in a poor country would understand this very well. It is bad for small business I agree..... but it is a huge help for poor people. A poor mother in Latvia who lives on $350 per month has to pay $20 for a baby outfit that would cost $5 in the US where people make 10x more.

I've been seeing more WalMart grocery stores only popping up lately that are new, but it makes sense as I read a few months ago they basically admitted a big part of profits is corporate welfare via food stamps and half of its sales is grocery.

Wal-Mart’s annual report, issued late last week, puts a different spin on things. Buried within the long list of risk factors disclosed to its shareholders–that is, factors “outside our control” that could materially affect financial performance–are these: “changes in the amount of payments made under the Supplement Nutrition Assistance Plan and other public assistance plans, (and) changes in the eligibility requirements of public assistance plans.”

Wal-Mart says it gets more than half its sales from its grocery departments. Since low-income shoppers are a big part of its clientele, it’s unsurprising that that squealing you hear is coming from its annual report. There’s no indication that Wal-Mart executives stepped up to the plate during the debate in Washington to warn Congress off these cuts in assistance to its customers.

One interesting sidelight of Wal-Mart’s disclosure is that it doesn’t actually discuss how the company benefits from public assistance programs by sticking the U.S. taxpayer with the bill for keeping its workforce fed and clothed.

SNAP recipients spend 18 cents of every dollar at Walmart or $14 billion sale annually. You can call Walmart is the biggest beneficiary of SNAP. Wondering why Warren Buffett loves WMT.

It seems like you can find anything at your local Wal-Mart, and most of the products are of course made in China these days. But that doesn’t mean that you’ll feel at home when you walk into a Wal-Mart in China. It’s quite the contrary based on these pictures. After all, China is known for its exotic, if not eccentric, food tastes. Take a look.

It’s been estimated that China accounts for about 10% of Wal-Mart’s international sales. That’s a lot of pig snouts.

Why is the Wal Mart return policy so liberal? The supplier better adhere to the policy or they are out of the chain completely.

(INDIANAPOLIS) - A man was arrested after he allegedly exposed himself at Walmart on the city's northwest side.
Police were dispatched to the Walmart in the 4500 block of Lafayette Road on Wednesday around 7:45 p.m. Upon arrival, the officers met with a loss prevention officer who showed him a live feed on a surveillance camera positioned in one of the aisles.
According to the officers, the camera showed a man with his exposed penis in the aisle while other patrons were shopping. The suspect continued this behavior as he walked through several aisles.
The officers approached the suspect, later identified as Brandon Emery, in the children's clothing section. When Emery saw the officers, they say he turned around and appeared to shove something in his pants.
Emery was placed into handcuffs and escorted to the loss prevention office. According to officers, Emery later admitted to fondling himself.
The officers discovered that there was an open warrant out of Delaware County for theft, and Emery was placed under arrest.
