AP sources: Cheney told CIA not to discuss program

<CITE class=vcard>By PAMELA HESS, Associated Press Writer Pamela Hess, Associated Press Writer </CITE><ABBR class=timedate title=2009-07-12T04:28:53-0700>Sun Jul 12, 7:28 am ET</ABBR>

WASHINGTON – Former Vice President Dick Cheney directed the CIA eight years ago not to inform Congress about a nascent counterterrorism program that CIA Director Leon Panetta terminated in June, officials with direct knowledge of the matter said Saturday.

Subsequent CIA directors did not inform Congress because the intelligence-gathering effort had not developed to the point that they believed merited a congressional briefing, said a former intelligence official and another government official familiar with Panetta's June 24 briefing to the House and Senate Intelligence committees.

Panetta did not agree.
According to Nancy P., The CIA lies, so is the unnamed officials lying to the press or was Nancy P. lying?

"if" is the operative word

I'd believe that there are "no gays in Iran" before I believe what our press tells us through the mouths of Democratic politicians.

He did, however, thrash Palin with one hand tied behind him. But how hard is that?

please, senile Joe was talking about some restaurant that was closed 20 years ago, but I guess you can relate to stuff like that.

you still don't comprehend what that thread was all about, LOL

1) I don't believe the POTUS micro manages the economy, that the best thing he can do is not fuck it up, but

2) if you do, how can you knock and economy that had job growth, market growth, low unemployment and increasing tax revenues for 6 consecutive years (at the time of the post). Just doesn't make very much sense, especially given one's shallow knowledge of economics.

Now you have your wish, a man that you think can micro manage the economy as you see fit. Tell me how's that working out? Did he save your world? did he keep his promise to keep unemployment below 8% if his stimulus bill passed? Not so well, eh? One day he may grow up and stop making silly little promises that he can't keep.

Let's see an actual quote where he PROMISED this. I recall the projections, along with CBO projections (8.3 for unemployment in 2009 I believe).

Help us out here Willie. Show us where he promised to keep unemployment below 8%.

http://otrans.3cdn.net/45593e8ecbd339d074_l3m6bt1te.pdf

Figure 1, page 5 of 14

to sum it up

Without the stimulus, they saw the unemployment rate — then 7.2 percent — rising above 8 percent in 2009 and peaking at 9 percent next year. With the stimulus, unemployment would probably peak at 8 percent late this year.

Before passage of the stimulus bill, the Obama administration had predicted that unemployment would peak at 8 percent before beginning to abate this fall. But unemployment has already reached 9.4 percent, the highest level in a quarter-century, and the situation is not projected to start improving until long after the White House had predicted.

that's funny KTV

next time Obama tells people that actual results may vary, please let me know. Do you think he made such qualifications to the people when selling his plan? of course not. Instead he said "if we do not pass this bill immediately, the entire economy will collapse". Then again, rewriting history is one of those leftie traits.

LOL, please read the fine print when Obama speaks

I will concede one thing, his words are cheap, as is the message he sells. I guess that's the argument you're trying to make.

Can you tell me what he really means when he says that his health care plan will cover more Americans, improve care and reduce costs?

does he mean maybe? should he tell us about the fine print before it's voted on?

So your point with this post is...?

It's a well established and documented fact exactly what the Obama administration was predicting.

You are way way out on a limb doing backward somersaults and jumping through hoops for the guy...geezus.

So you'd consider the denials in 2007 by Bush that we were entering a recession, all the Iraq cost predictions from 2002-2003-2004-2005 and your own predicitons of the last election to be promises that were broken?

The "Obama promised 8%" mantra is something I've heard repeatedly. I did some reading on sites like townhall etc looking for any proof that he said "promised". Seeing Willie repeat it again gave me a chance to ask again for proof - I received none.

Asking for proof = jumping through hoops to defend. I guess that must count as humor writing over at The Made-up Vegetable Weekly Comedy Paper. Here however, it just seems dumb.

I think we can all agree..."promised" was too strong...but it was used by Willie casually, impromptu and as a manner of speech. Like we all do, from time to time.

What is actually dumb is your insistence on the word game "gotcha", as if it bolsters your point.

It makes you look desperate...like when somebody knows they are wrong...but won't admit it. :103631605

We ALL know what Obama meant...it's been well documented...don't be a fool about it.

tell us KTV, did McCain actually make any "anti-gambling promises"?

interesting you guys are playing the lefty v righty game arguing about semantics. there can be absolutely NO DEBATE that Obama told the American people that the stimulus package needed to be approved "right away" as his advisers explained that without the stimulus, they saw the unemployment rate, then 7.2 percent, rising above 8 percent in 2009 and peaking at 9 percent in 2010. With the stimulus "unemployment would probably peak at 8 percent late this year."

did he use the specific word PROMISE? not to my knowledge but if you're going to live off weighing 'promise vs probably' when he's already 1.5% off target by July, then you have a lot of issues.

hell, even his VP admitted they were wrong! Why would anyone feel they won a debate because the word PROMISE wasn't used during his threat of catastrophy which, it turns out, would have been a best case scenario WITHOUT the stimulus!?!?

No he didn't make any more promises. He did however have a staffer reply to an email of mine in 2008 where I asked if he had changed his stance at all from 2001 where he penned the letter calling for a ban on college sports betting (he has not).

You can spin all you want (God knows might help that LDL count).

But you really want to go down this path? You can try all you want, but no promise of 8% was made. If you truly equated a prediction to a promise, then there should be posts of you railing against all the broken Bush promises when it comes to the recession to war estimates etc. But who are we kidding, Willie and "Bush Boom" will forever be linked in this forum.

You and your ilk are the ones trying to play gotcha. I merely am calling you out on it.

Play your gotcha word game and remember you're on the side that is encouraging people (succesfully) to shoot up clinics and churches. At least you're sort of on a side in a real fight hey?

So keep listening to Rush or whomever and repeating what you know to be false.

Fat fucks of a feather I guess.

KTV slipping into that good ole looney left bail out

Listen to Rush, name calling and accusations that don't stand up to anyone paying attention.

"but he didn't literally say promise" :Sad Face:

:)<<

as I so adeptly pointed out, using the word "promise" is a totally acceptable and widely used political lexicon when discussing political talking points, and KTV has done so himself.

Then he tries to spin, spin, spin using semantics, an inappropriate attempt to use semantics no less.
