big difference...after three bong hits, you can still drive a car, and have a normal conversation without sounding like a fool...tough to do after 3 shots of 180 proof

Pol Pot, an enemy of the Soviet Union, also gained support from Thailand and the US. In particular, the US and the PRC vetoed the allocation of Cambodia's United Nations General Assembly seat to a representative of Heng Samrin's government. The US directly and indirectly supported Pol Pot, including for example funneling aid raised for Cambodian relief to the Khmer Rouge. Pol Pot espoused a radically revised variant of Maoism adapted to Khmer nationalism. Envisaging a perfectly egalitarian agrarianism, the Khmer Rouge favored a completely agrarian society to the point that all modern technological contrivances were banned. An autonomist, Pol Pot was quite the opponent of Soviet orthodoxy. Because he was anti-Soviet, the United States, Thailand and People's Republic of China considered him preferable to the pro-Vietnamese government.

Game.

In those days and at that period in time ANYONE was better than the Reds, even Pol Pot.

It was communists communists communists as far as the US was concerned and anyone who wasn't communist was an 'ally'.

Of course later on, once it emerged that he was a murdering lunatic the US/west distanced itself from his regime.

It was Ho Chi Minhs boys who were the bad guys at that time.
When Sihanouk wouldn't join the US side and dabbled with the communists plus allowing the HCM trail to pass unmolested through Cambodia (not mentioned in this link btw) the CIA had him deposed in a coup.
Once the CIA had destabilised Cambodia it made it possible for Pol Pot and his buddies to eventually take control of the country in the ensuing years.

Game, I think this point is so overlooked at times...i never claim that we are perfect, or don't ever do anything questionable, but at the end of the day if you look at history, this country has done more for the good of the world than any other..

Why yes, it would be a shame if some other country on this planet was a communist country. Better to send over 50,000 young men to thier deaths in Vietnam to fight some other country's civil war.

Kuwait.....there's a good one.....4th largest army on the planet invades, we turn them back and not even bother to confiscate Iraqi oil wells for reparation for war expenses caused by Saddam's actions.....

Like usual, just forget about the debt, and take it up the a$$ at the pumps from Iraq, Kuwait, and all the rest of the middle east price fixers......

At times I wish this was just an average country on the planet, not some superpower cop to the globe. Maybe then we'd actually take care of our own country instead of making the rest of the people on the planet real comfortable at the expense of our own citizens.......Bush is working on this part.....keep working on dropping the value of the dollar, keep spending billions overseas and asking for more, and while he's at it, just formulate some plan where the social security fund can just be gambled away on the stock market.....

marco,

you make a decent point. we should take the oil for our expenses, however, the libs would cry to no end if we did. liberals are loud and whiney, but irrevelant. so we should take it.
