For the team, it is usually better to get a higher on base % than # of hits.
Boggs took a lot of shit back then when he was doing exactly this....getting on base a shit load with hits AND walks.
But this was before baseball sabermetrics and people complained he was taking walks instead of driving guys in.

He would be a God in this day and age.

Well, not exactly. The Japanese league is just below MLB talent wise. It's better than AAA ball. Ichiro was facing Yu Darvish type pitchers. It's not like they're throwing Oil Can Boyd out there each night in Japan.

Hahaha put the bottle down guys who can't make it in MLB go to Japan and are stars so really it's worse then AAA but nice try

bullshit stat...

what other leagues can we count??

mexican league, negro league, taiwan, cuba, spring training, little league wtf?? who gives a crap..

Exactly & end of story.

No way his stats elsewhere should count.

How can you combine them?

Just idiotic.

Let's combine NFL, CFL, and Arena League stats for players while we're at it...

MLB talent is way better than Japan. They don't count the 21+ thousand yards Moon threw for in the CFL towards his NFL stats.

I never said his stats should count.

Just made the simple observation that if he would have started in MLB at 19 instead of Japan he would be the all time hits leader.

It makes no difference how good or bad jap ball is compared to MLB.

The simple fact is he came into MLB and dominated starting on day 1.

So if you add 6 more years of prime years to his MLB stats he easily has 4300 hits.

So it makes no difference what jap ball is compared to MLB. They guy has 3k MLB hits since he was 27 years old . So the jap thing is irrelavant

Ichiro leadoff single, and he has 4,256 in his career, counting those accrued in Japan. That ties him with Pete Rose.

This whole thought process is laughable and pathetic..... At the same time.

There IS NO Such THING as Jap + MLB records.

And oh......

I think Tiger beat one of his whoredogs in a Putt-Putt MAJOR tournament. One win closer to Jack?

That is a guess and not a fact.

Before coming into the Major Leagues Ichiro was a very good hitter, capable of hitting Major League pitching as well as many of the best hitters.

If anyone disagrees with that, it is a fact that they are retarded

He had the greatest rookie year I've ever seen in MLB.
