I never thought about this, but a CFB player with a career ending injury gets nothing.

Silas Redd comes to mind after JoePa was cut from the payroll. He transferred to USC and started right away. I'm not sure what else this could be about.

Conan, what "this could be about"....was the discussion about the NCAA and liberalizing the transfer rules. It looks like that's coming down the pike, along w/ some other possibilities. We were discussing what the "more liberal" transfer policies may be.

Conan, regarding your main discussion I'm not sure why you are bringing up a subject that's not been a subject since the inception of college football. Why is this a "hot topic" for you? Things have been fine since CFB began the way it's handled now. Most kids who die or are severely injured tend to sue the university (or their families do, if they die). Not sure why it's such a topic now. NO ONE is forcing these kids to play CFB...especially a walk-on. And you know what; shit happens. People have "career ending" injuries all the time. I was a professional firefighter for nearly 18 years, I saw plenty of guys have "career ending injuries". Shit happens. Like I said previously, the only solution I could see is some sort of AFLAC type insurance policy. But that's overkill. What about the kid at the Coast Guard Academy that aspires to be a pilot someday (I bring this up as an example because I am in the CG)? What if he suffers an injury on the football field that prevents him from becoming a Helo-pilot? What recourse does he have? None. Why? Because shit happens. You're argument isn't "in vain". I just don't agree with you...at all.

OK Coach, then let's agree to disagree.

I read a lot. I have quoted two recent articles on the subject of changing the way the NCAA does its business, and I've known about the player grievances for a while. You can claim that there is nothing wrong all day long but I bet you this won't go away quietly. Take it or leave it if that is your choice, but there is no way the NCAA comes away clean from this.

So when some kid's parents come for a visit after their son gets his bell rung in a game and forgets his name and where he is, if you happen to be the guy that they see first, please for the sake of the school don't just tell them that shit happens. A little reassurance that their son will be well taken care of can go a long way.

I think the thing that has some confused (and this is just my oppinion) but post #9 of this thread should have been a new thread and not lumped in with Jim Browns rant at the hof dinner. ... Post #9 has nothing to do with Jim Browns rant.

You only need to read the first sentence of the letter to understand what it is about. ...It is about a big-5 breakaway from the other 6 fbs conferences.

The bulk of the Jim Brown piece I quoted in the first post deals with a question from the audience about a student's future if he is seriously injured. This is beyond just the first line of his rant Ty. Both articles address student grievances on the table today and a lot of this is discussed in the Pac-12 article. I don't necessarily agree with all 10 points including "liberalizing the transfer rules" but that's a pretty vague way of putting the issue out there so I would ask for clarification about exactly what that means.

that was a one-time allowance from the NCAA so they didn't penalize current players for something totally unrelated to them. stay on point please...that had nothing to do with the coach getting fired

(although nobody is agreeing with any of your super-liberal viewpoints categorizing every CFB player as a victim or slave so not sure staying on point is the best course)

it's not going to take much for the break to happen imo, but it will need to be led by a must-have school like Texas or USC or Alabama and not by Miss State or Northwestern or Wake Forest

IMO the unionization argument from a Northwestern player made is even more absurd than if it was a kid from Memphis. At 65k+/year a kid on the NW football team gets over $300K in education benefits over 5 years while walking away with a Masters from one of the most prestigious non-Ivy schools in the country....and they're the one leading the victim stance? lol, ridiculous. Would have been much better served being led from a 20k/yr shit school like Boise State that people really only associate with a football program. I digress...

I wasnt talking about the first line of Jim Browns rant , i was talking about the first line of post #9

" Pac-12 university presidents have sent a letter to their colleagues at the other four major football conferences calling for sweeping changes to the NCAA model and autonomy for those leagues. "

The other conferences dont have to agree on all 10 points of the letter , they can "change the ncaa model and get autonomy" by just agreeing on a few points.

This letter would have been sent regardless of Jim Browns rant.

It doesnt have to be lead by a school if it can be lead by conferences.

This Larry Scott is sharp , so sharp he's got conan thinking its about player wellfair when its really about stipends and different recruiting rules.

Quoting Jim Brown is never gonna win any arguments..guy is a clown.

Guaranteed degrees would be a good start....not this year to year shit some of these schools pull to make room for recruits.
