What was the name of the jockey who was riding "Sky Mom?"
Theriot suspended 30 days after Arlington spill
By Marcus HershARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. - Arlington stewards issued a 30-day suspension Monday against jockey Jamie Theriot for his role in a spill during the Arlington Matron, race 9 here Saturday.
Theriot was riding Sky Mom in the Matron. Racing along the rail and just behind eventual winner Euphony turning into the homestretch, Theriot steered out to try and get through a hole between Born to Be and Euphony. Sky Mom bumped into Born to Be, who veered sharply out, clipping heels with fading speed horse Boudoir before going down violently. Born to Be had to be euthanized later Saturday, while her rider, Rene Douglas, suffered a potentially debilitating injury in the spill.
The stewards held a hearing on the matter Sunday, with Theriot participating by phone, before handing down their ruling Monday. Fred Aime, Theriot's agent, said that as of Monday afternoon, Theriot had not decided whether he would appeal the ruling.
"We haven't decided anything right now," Aime said. "We're still looking into what options we might have, if any."
