They're all talking heads, who's opinions change with whoever is winning...Bill Walton is the absolute worst at this...

I love Walton, but the guys opinion changes everytime someone scores...

I might have defended ESPN Sportscenter until a few days ago when I was watching and they said, "Coming up...a live performance by Kid Rock." I was like WTF? This is supposed to be a sports news and highlights show...not the Budweiser concert series with a little sports news thrown in. These people are trying to hard. You know what kills me it some V.P of marketing with an IVY league education came up the this in a meeting. Some little nerd in a suit said, "Hey, I got a great idea, why don't we have Kid Rock perform live during Sportscenter." and the ESPN brass bought it for some stupid reason...

I actually turn off the volume when the Kid Rock stuff comes on. That NFL commercial last year wore out a set of batteries.

When the Pistons reached the finals, Stephen A. Smith apoligized to basketball fans that they would have to watch the Pistons get crushed by the Lakers. A complete asshole with limited vocabulary. There is not a sentence that this assswipe says that does'nt have the words, "clearly", "However", or "absolutely" in it

I agree with most of all that's been posted, that ESPN has eased into a slightly lazy monopoly with only Fox-Regionals and no more CNN-SI to keep it sharper.

Patrick & Olberman were my favs too, J-man.

Ley and Mees(RIP), along with Berman, etc.will always be a cut above to me.

The old-school SportsReporters was so good, that I would often lose an hour of last-minute capping and NFL linework on Sunday mornings to listen to it religiously.

The NFL, MLB, NCAA(foots & hoops), & NHL daily shows are still first-rate, as is Ley w/OTL..with PTI amusing(BUT NOT INFORMATIVE)

SportsCenter is definitely DOA for some years now..I watch straight-up ESPN News now, and used to watch CNN-SI on the dish..not in college any longer..I just want it served straight-up thank you.

I love The WSOP..Chad is hilarious.

With Franklin, Gottfried, Karsten(& Dr.Punch yrs ago) by country miles the best college football game call for two decades running.

ESPN is still plenty strong enough to "not play fair" if they don't want too.

Good post Horseshoe....

I am curious if ESPN's SportsCenter ratings have dipped any? It seems as if they have cornered the market pretty much...the show has become too much , even for some diehard fans...

Winky have you read ESPN The Uncensored Historyby Michael Freeman? Is the book fact or fiction? A lotta stuff in it. Thanks

yup - read it. i can tell you olbermann LOVED it! as for fact/fiction - depends who you ask. you ask espn suits - fiction. you ask anyone else - FACT! i won't do it here - but in several stories in the book i KNOW the names they fictionalized. i saw one a few months ago and i called her on it - and she gave me one of these "i don't know what you're talking about" smirks.

as for cold pizza - i watched a little of it - but then NO MORE. first off - it airs too early in the PDT.

i will ALWAYS have fond memories of my times with dan patrick (one of the nicest guys you'll meet - but he can be tough at times - but only because he wants the best from you and the show), chris berman (he did stuff for me he didn't have to do - and never said a word about it) and a few others. i hate to say this - but tom mees dying actually made me happy. he was the guy i wanted to meet when i got there for we both loved hockey. then i made a mistake one day when i worked a 14-hour day with only a 15-minute break to run across the street to mickey d's for food - and things went downhill after that. he can rot in hell for all i care.

Steven A Smith is just an act on ESPN. He writes very good articles as a sports reporter
for The Philadelphia Inquirer. He's like two different people. The veteran writer and ESPN resident loud mouth.

that would be Al Jaffe - or at least he had a big hand in it. if you saw

ream Job" he was on the panel of judges. i can live with SAS who bolted from Fox.

if you really wanna fire someone - forget "SAS" - how about ESPN's EOE hire - Stuart Scott. THAT person should not only be fired - but fired AT! yet the suits at espn like this clown for they keep giving him high profile jobs.

the next time they have "Dream Job" the winner should get Scott's job - and the EOE clown should be fired.

"Yo Winky, don't hate the player, hate the game(that is ESPN selling it's soul to keep 18-35 male demographic)"..just kidding with you..something tells me that even in South Compton ESPN's viewers would show Stu Scott "the love", "they'd break him off something(a foot in the ass)"..HANDS DOWN he is the most annoying ESPN product ever endured.

Liked Gumble, loved Roberts, ESPN please return to doing a demographic/quota-hire the true justice it(and all) deserve..please!

CNN's Nick Charles & Fred Hickman, along with Jim Huber pieces were actually what I watched most when they were in play..talked to Charles at the bar Bally's casino 15 years ago..nice guy...and CNN-SI's Inga Hammond(now Fox) is one hot lady(but a lil' too thin)

Must have been a helluva life experience to have worked there..Bristol & Avon-Ct up the road is really nice country..I like Vt & Maine better though.

***wasn't bad. the bars closed @ 1A (2A on fri/sat nights) but they stayed open later when espn employees were there. all in all - not too bad. 2 hours from boston/nyc/vt/nh/etc.

but that is the problem - you are always X hours from someplace - and not the place you want to be.

it was nice to be able to take the 91-North from hartford to montreal on a straight shot.

Buffalo66:
Steven Smith is a despicable
excuse for a human being. Steven loves Steven is his motto. His world revolves around himself and his outrageous opinions. (He wants to be the black Howard Cosell) His ignorance, obnoxiousness, and sense of righteousness is trully astounding. If you want a true gauge of the man, Cotton Fitzsimmons, go to NBA. com/ Phoenix Suns and read what the people who worked with him have to say. It underscores exactly how f_cked up Mr. Smith's perceptions are. Why media outlets (ESPN, FOX, ABC) cater to this jerk is beyond comprehension. He would only be a 50/50 shot, on how to put on a jock strap; yet they all provide him a national stage.

(This was a post in the Thursday NBA forum. How fitting that most feel the same way about "this tell it like it is, tough guy." Think about it.If you were a professional athlete, would you confide anything to this champion of the world series of assholes competition.)
