No group of gambling friends/drinking buddies etc. Infact I do very little drinking and almost never drink while betting on sports. I bet for the adrenaline rush and the freedom it gives me and it allows me to escape reality. I am at a stage in my life where if I'm not betting 4 digits on a game I don't feel excited about it. Its not about the money but rather the rush I get knowing the amount of money I have riding on the game. All that being said will be attending my first meeting tonight.

I can only speak from experience with AA, but pretty much every 12 step group is going to be based in "God". More focused on spirituality than what I would call organized religion.

However they don't try to shove it down your throat, at least not in AA.

There are a lot of God-based premises in AA, some I agree with and a lot I don't buy. Just take what you want and leave the rest was always my philosophy.

Literally the worst thing that could happen from going to a meeting is you waste an hour of your life. It's not a high-pressure situation.

Your higher power can be anything you choose it to be. Nothing is shoved down your throat. You can come and go as you please and it is totally anonymous. If it is a real problem dont make excuses and get help. Think of how good it will feel to get some control back in your life. Blowing that dime and then everything you get at the first of the month is not the answer.
