Jane Fonda: I knew about Weinstein, and I'm 'ashamed' I didn't say anything
Jane Fonda regrets not speaking up earlier about Harvey Weinstein. The film star, who is also an active women's rights advocate, told CNN's Christiane Amanpour on Thursday that she "found out about Harvey about a year ago." "I'm ashamed that I didn't say anything right then," Fonda said. The Oscar award winning actress said that she was never assaulted by the movie mogul. In the past week, multiple women have come forward accusing Weinstein of rape, assault and other misconduct.
The stories revealed that Weinstein's actions were something of an open secret in Hollywood. Fonda, 79, said that her friend and fellow actor, Rosanna Arquette, had recounted a troubling experience with Weinstein.
Fonda declined to discuss what Arquette told her. But Arquette is among the handful of actresses whose experiences with Weinstein were detailed in the New Yorker this week. Arquette said she denied advances Weinstein made in a hotel room. "He made things very difficult for me for years," she told the New Yorker. When asked why Fonda didn't say anything publicly after she spoke with Arquette, Fonda said, "I guess it hadn't happened to me, and so I didn't feel that it was my place." Fonda, an Academy Award winner, spoke to Amanpour about her own past experiences with sexual harassment and abuse. She says she was abused as an 8-year-old child and explains why therapy was important for her recovery. "You realize what I'm feeling is ok because this person is sharing my pain," she said.

Some of Hollywood's biggest stars have remained tight-lipped over the bombshell sexual harassment allegations against ex-studio head Harvey Weinstein that went public last week. An investigation by The New York Times claimed on Thursday that Weinstein repeatedly sexually harassed a number of female employees and movie stars over the course of his three-decade career as one of Hollywood's most celebrated studio heads. The shocking Times report alleged that Weinstein once asked Ashley Judd if she would like to watch him shower during a meeting in his room at the Peninsula Beverly Hills and paid $100,000 to Rose McGowan for an unknown incident shortly after she filmed her breakthrough role in the film 'Scream.' That settlement is one of eight that Weinstein has reportedly paid out over the past 30 years, with Italian model Ambra Battilana also getting an undisclosed sum in 2015 after accusing the Hollywood executive of groping her and putting his hand under her skirt. Hollywood elite actresses Nicole Kidman, Jennifer Lawrence and Julia Roberts are among the many women who have worked with Weinstein in the past. These women have also been vocal advocates for women equality, with Kidman even speaking out against violence towards women. Weinstein was fired on Sunday by The Weinstein Company just days after the Times published the claims. The movie mogul was ousted by his own company's board of directors. Weinstein founded the firm with his brother Bob in 2005 when he left Miramax. But since the allegations made national headlines, these A-listers have kept quiet: NICOLE KIDMAN She is a favorite of Weinstein, working with him on seven films, and has been photographed numerous times with him at awards ceremonies and gala dinners. Kidman, 50, fights for equality as a UN women's ambassador and in 2013 said violence against women is 'the greatest outrage'. She has no social media presence and by last night had said nothing about Weinstein; her publicist did not respond to calls for comment.

A Democratic candidate facing a felony charge of grand larceny has bowed out of the race to challenge Rep. John Faso, R-N.Y. Steven Brisee, 27, was arrested on Sept. 11 and accused of shoplifting almost $1,500 in merchandise from a Kohl's department store in Newburgh. He was arraigned and remanded to custody in lieu of $500 bail. According to the Times Herald-Record newspaper, Brisee also spent eight days in the Ulster County Jail last month after being charged with a misdemeanor count of trespassing. State troopers told the paper that a homeowner in the town of Kerhonksen called police Sept. 9 after finding a stranger's clothes and a wallet containing some of Brisee's campaign cards. The candidate was eventually bailed out of jail. Brisee claimed to live in the 19th District of New York, which he sought to represent. But the Times Herald-Record reported that the address he declared to be his "doesn't appear to exist." In an email to the Daily Freeman newspaper this week, Brisee said he had "raised rougly $850 and spent roughly $18,000" in his ill-fated campaign. Brisee did not mention the charges in a statement he tweeted Tuesday. He said that he was on the autism spectrum and explained that "social skills, needed to connect with people, to raise money, and deliver a message, are skills which can’t be learned mechanically. "I can do and learn a lot of things but sadly sociability will never be one of them,"Brisee concluded. "So that's enough politics for me."
