Donald Trump hired illegal immigrants to build his new luxury hotel because of course he did

7/8/15 12:30pm by Jon Green 2

Donald Trump has jumped to second place in early-state Republican primary polling on the backs of undocumented immigrants. More precisely, Donald Trump has jumped to second place in the Republican primary polling by calling undocumented immigrants diseased-infested rapists and murderers — comments that have energized the Republican base beyond belief.
The absurdity of Donald Trump can be measured many ways: the number of times he’s gone bankrupt; the number of companies and organization’s he’s sued; the number of times he’s been married — despite his support for “traditional” marriage, as in one man, one woman, one time; the number of secret plans he has to fight the Islamic State; and so on. So it should come as no surprise that The Washington Post found a new way to measure Trump’s absurdity yesterday: the number of undocumented immigrants he’s currently employing.
The Post interviewed roughly twenty people working on construction for Trump’s new luxury hotel in Washington, D.C., and found that a number of them were there in the country illegally. Still more had illegally immigrated before later gaining legal status. They are employed by Lend Lease, a contracting firm hired by one of Trumps companies. In a statement, one of Trump’s spokespeople would only say that they and affiliated companies had complied with all applicable laws when hiring employees for the project.
The workers, many of whom commute from as far away as Baltimore to work on construction for the hotel, which will be located five blocks from the White House, expressed concern that they could lose their jobs at any moment now that the candidate has a political interest in seeing them deported. Others were just (righteously) angry over his remarks:
“Do you think that when we’re hanging out there from the eighth floor that we’re raping or selling drugs?” Ramon Alvarez, 48, a window worker from El Salvador, said during a break Monday morning just outside the construction site. “We’re risking our lives and our health. A lot of the chemicals we deal with are toxic.”
Mediaite called the Post‘s report “the most predictable development in world history.”

After all, for all of Trump’s bloviating against all things Mexico, this is a man who will ditch all of his moral convictions if he thinks it will get him a buck, or a “young and beautiful piece of ass.” As Gabe Ortiz of America’s Voice pointed out, much of his clothing line is manufactured in Mexico.
It will be interesting to see how the GOP base handles the news that their anti-immigrant champion is totally pro-immigrant when it comes to exploiting their labor for personal gain. Mitt “Self-Deportation” Romney took damage over similar charges in 2011, when reports re-emerged that he had hired undocumented immigrants to work on his lawn. Of course, he went on to win the nomination, so history suggests that Republican voter can handle at least some level of immigration hypocrisy from their leaders.
But Trump is taking that hypocrisy to immeasurably absurd levels. So absurd, in fact, that — according to him — he’s going to win the latino vote.

According to a Rasmussen poll, most people are on the same page as Trump in regards to immigration. Here are the contents of the poll:

- 63% want the border secured while 30% want illegals to become citizens.
- 55% oppose Obama's executive order giving illegals amnesty.
- 58% believe amnesty for illegals will lead to increases in illegal immigration.
- 80% have a favorable opinion of legal immigrants who came to work hard to achieve the American dream, while only 54% believe immigrants are actually here to work hard for that American dream

[h=1]Top GOP lawyer absolutely scorches Ted Cruz: “Most graduates of Harvard Law School know” better[/h] [h=2]Ted Olson dings Cruz's proposal to revamp the Supreme Court[/h] Sophia Tesfaye

Conservative attorney and prominent gay rights activist Ted Olson took a swipe Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz , saying the freshman senator had abandoned a fundamental understanding of the constitution when he suggested a constitutional amendment barring same-sex marriage in the wake of the recent Supreme Court decision in favor of marriage equality.
Immediately following the Court’s decision, Cruz promised to keep the issue “front and center” in his campaign. ”That is very much front and center something I intend to campaign on,” he said. “And marriage and religious liberty are going to be integral, I believe, to motivating the American people to come out and vote for what’s, ultimately, restoring our constitutional system.”
Cruz subsequently proposed altering the Constitution to require Supreme Court justices to face judicial retention elections.
Olson, a former United States Solicitor General under George W. Bush, ridiculed Cruz’s plan as politically unachievable: “A constitutional amendment to change Article III of the Constitution in this fashion has virtually no chance of succeeding … I would think that most graduates of the Harvard Law School know that,” he said in an email to the Washington Post.

After arguing against him in Bush v. Gore, Olson famously joined progressive David Boies in Hollingsworth v. Perry, the case affirming the overturning of California’s ban on same-sex marriage.
For his part, Cruz, who as Olson points out is a graduate of Harvard Law School, served as a law clerk for Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist from 1996 to 1997 before eventually going on to become solicitor general of Texas.
Despite his Ivy League education, the freshmen senator also revealed a basic lack of understanding of world religions when he recently predicted that the Supreme Court ruling would result in the Justice Department targeting “Jewish churches” that refuse to perform same-sex marriages.

Wednesday night on Newsmax TV’s “Newsmax Prime,”
Rep. Steve King (R-IA)
77%

said liberals in San Francisco who don’t communicate with federal immigration officials due to sanctuary city policies “have blood on their hand” for the alleged murder of 32-year-old Kate Steinle by five-time deportee Juan Francisco Lopez-Sanchez. King said, “Sanctuary cities exist because of the left, because of the open border policy. Yes, there is blood on their hands and San Francisco is at fault. All of California is a sanctuary state today, and many states have these jurisdictions like this.”
Discussing a positive outcome of the recent controversy swirling around Republican presidential candidate Donald Trumps Mexican criminal comments King said his amendment to the Commerce Justice Appropriations bill blocking federal funds to sanctuary cities has a better chance of passing explaining, “We’ve got an opportunity to hold that language because of Donald Trump and because of this national crisis.”

The fact that you think any hypocrisy is represented here is surreal.

I love when righties bitch about Obama's vacations and lefties bitch about Bush's vacations. It's as if you guys operate under the assumption that when these guys go on vacation it's just like Sally, the company secretary, going on vacation. These guys are on the job 24/7, 365, regardless of their locale.

I'd bet my last dollar you have absolutely no idea who funds bipartisanreport, bipartisan my ass. If you take into account the number of days Obama has blown off being president and flown around AF1 to fundraisers, golfed with donors, drank beer with college kids, and hit up another star studded fundraising dinner or party, then his vacation days are more like 2,126.
