No doubt both these teams will come out playing to win but I just don't have much confidence in NW because they are so banged up and their record is the result of a very easy schedule. They lost to Indiana and got blown out by Ohio State. They got a miracle win over the Gophers and beat a Michigan team that has totally given up on the season. Not great play down the stretch. They just don't strike me as a team that can overcome the talent differencial on the field. Maybe the Cats win but I just don't see the value here with Northwestern.

If I took the Cats I would seriously look at a 1st half play because Illinois has looked really bad this year out of the gate. They seem to play much better in the 2nd half, especially on defense.

mr. landers - i'm not using that logic at all. in fact, if you look at the trends where a team needs to win to be eligible you'll find that it isn't really a factor. does anyone really think the illini would just fold and not care about this game if they'd already won 6 this year? nah, didn't think so.
