Before the hi-jacking a couple people wanted to know how this "turned out".

My original post was that I got a ticket in the mail and it stated that I had parked in a handicapped zone. Something I would never do knowingly.

I went back to where I was ticketed and could tell why I was ticketed/parked there. Basically the "handicap zone" is not clearly marked. I was ticketed at 9 PM at night. The street has no lighting and the sign itself is blocked by tree limbs and leaves that have overgrown covering the signage.

I took pictures of this. I was at this spot for 20-25 minutes this past Saturday evening and in that timeframe two other cars got "surprise tickets" so I'm not the only one who can't tell it is prohibited parking.

I had my hearing today. I was completely respectful - yes I parked there - didn't know the area - was surprised by what I found in the mail - went back and looked and I can tell what happened - showed the pictures showing that you can't see shit approaching the signage (and it's a one-way street) - geez oh wheez two other people got tickets in 25 minutes when I was there - nobody can see this, etc

You STILL LOSE. These dickheads are all about the money and nothing else. They give you an appeal process (clearly they are gambling that you cannot afford to take off another day of work to deal with their bullshit process and will just pay up whether it is their own fault or not)

so they made you pay it, no dismissal?

even with the photos? see in your states laws, I am certain it must say a handicapd designated parking space needs to be painted blue, and have a 3foot sign DENOTEing such spot.

If its not visible, or any of the 1,2,3 thngs are not correct, they should of thrown it out.

I never got the vibe that the signage not being 100% visible was a "uh-oh" for them. Even when presented with the photographic proof. "You have to know what that sign says" - and I don't think that is how the law works at all (I don't think you don't have to "know" - I think it has to be displayed properly) but it is Philly.

They are getting tougher with the "Crip" parking here in CT !

I'm not handicapped, but have a LIFETIME handicapped parking permit ( from a broken ankle, some 5-6 years ago), so I'm legal for life !

Problem is, they issued lifetime to everyone, for temporary conditions ( like mine).... now everybody has them. They do temps now.

My wife got in trouble with this just the other day, at a mall in a small town, no police force, but a large mall, protected by the state Police. She was parked crip, had the rearview mirror hangar ( but not mine), it belonged to my deceased mother ( 7 years dead). Wife is not really physically handicapped, cop ran the tag #, I guess ? Cop was waiting for her to return to the car.

I don't expect sympathy here, she abused the system, for sure. She was with her daughter ( about 26-27, daughter has a legal lifetime permit, as well).

Cop wanted to know about Alice ***** ( my mother), shown as deceased by his accurate records, wife has same surname. No ticket, they wanted her to go to the copshop, she did.... no ticket...told her to destroy the Alice tag, didn't even confiscate it.

Of course , we kept it, just can't use it in that little BS town with no police force.

I like those big spots for my F-150 4X4, and I'm 100% legal for life, easier to load those heavy kegs in the truck, if you park close to the liquor store. :drink:

Fuck it, ....if everybody else in CT has lifetime crip permits, I'll sure use my legally issued one, wifey using my dead Mom's one 7 year's after is a stretch.

I'll probably give her the legal one, for her car, and put the "Alice" one in the truck, I usually park it legal anyway.... then I don't have to lock the truck, fearing somebody swipes the crip tag.

Email I got today

This was sent to us from a retired OPP officer

WHAT TO DO IF YOU GET A TICKET!

This system has been tried and it works in every province.
If you get a speeding ticket or went through a red light or whatever the case may be, you are going to get points on your license.

This is a method to ensure that you DO NOT get the points.
When you get your fine, send in a check to pay for it.

If the fine is $79.00 make the check out for $82.00 or some small amount over the fine.

The system will then have to send you back a check for the difference, however here is the trick..

DO NOT CASH THE REFUND CHECK!

Throw it away!
Points are not assessed to your license until all financial transactions are complete.

If you do not cash the check, then the transactions are NOT complete.

The system has received it's money and is satisfied and will no longer bother you.

This information comes from an unmentioned computer company that sets up the standard databases used by every province.

Update. Had my "hearing" 8-14-09 (I mentioned before) which I was disappointed that the "hearing" was actually conducted by a Philadelphia Parking Authority employee. Despite photographic evidence showing obstruction and poor lighting at the scene of the "ticket" I was told I had the option to appeal the decision. One has 29 days to appeal the decision.

On 8-30-09 I sent off my appeal request. On 9-11-09 I receive a rejection for the appeal based on the grounds that my request was not sent via certified mail. The instructions do say that by the way (send via certified mail) although nothing I get from them is ever sent that way so it never really registered as being necessary. Note the date that I received the correspondence back (guaranteeing that I would not be able to get another request in before 29 days had elapsed)

On 9-12-09 I sent a request for a hearing via certified mail (which they received on 9-15-09) and hope they allow a day or two grace period.

I have already heard back from them rejecting that hearing date and "Payment due immediately". (with late fees attached)

It's a complete and total "money grab". There isn't one iota of common sense applied to anything.
