my beliefs for the perfect mod:

allows the community to help define his roll. attempts to be impartial at all times during disputes. is NOT overbearing, meaning he/she strives to steer conversations to stay on topic, WITHOUT using moderation tools such as edit /move /delete / suspend. allows the community to control the flow of topics and threads as long as things stay within the boundaries of the site rules. AND ABOVE ALL ELSE, the person must be a moderator because they have a desire to help others, becuase if you do it for any other reason, you wont be doing a good job.

i strive to meet my own definitions of a perfect moderator. i admit, i still have a lot of room for improvement.

I guess the number #1 trait would be to LISTEN to what the posters wants and needs are.. since well it is their site

I'd like to know why you ask for opinions on things when it seems in reality that it makes no difference what we say. I've been told to keep feuds out of the sports forums and to email the mods with any problems. I tried this approach. Do a search on Shack and read his posts. 90 % of his posts bash me directly or indirectly. In every post that I make in the baseball, football and college football forum Shack follows me and craps it up. I've been emailing mods for two days and have not received one response. Today I emailed every mod including Shrink and still haven't received a response. You guys are doing a great service for Peep. Here's the search on Shack

Normally it takes you a month or two but you finally get it.

The perfect mod knows how to control the forum without strangling it. The keys are tact, judgement, PR skills.

Not to criticize unduly, but none of the mods here have all three skills. Flame if you wish, but no one person has them. At the very least, the head guy should.

I just retired from 15 years at a public relations job, so I'm not guessing at it. I'm not applying for the job here either. Just answering the question.
