best part in all this is that the supposed panacea, an 8-team playoff, would have still kept UCF out of the playoffs. The committee had them 12th and Auburn 7th so in the main talking-head solution, 8-team playoff, Auburn would have been in the playoffs and UCF would be playing some other 3-4 loss scrub in some other meaningless bowl

You guys said same thing last year about unbeaten Western Michigan before their bowl game loss vs Wisconsin. They were committee #15...again, nothing that an 8-team playoff would have fixed

same bullshit 2 years ago with Houston after beating 3-loss FSU ... Houston was ranked 18th (!) by the committee

so 8-team doesn't get ay of these group of 5's in, 12 gets 1 of 3 in, and 16 gets 2 of 3 in

next you want 24 or 36 or 48 or ninety fucking six or all 128...

8 teams starts with conference champions, the committee only gets a couple of picks

5 power conferences, and the best of the other conferences and two at large

College football is the Worst sport ?? and not even close ?

You need to put the pipe down and step away. CFB much better than the NFL, CBB much better than the NBA
I watch much more College games than Pro games. That's not even close.

Now the College football playoffs is screwed, but they are getting better.

and NOTHING better than March Madness ! NOTHING !

I agree march madness is good. Always has been. They don't change anything besides players being able to leave early and it is STILL better! Even if they are there just one year it's still better lmao.

College football the rules suck first of all. It is made for dumb average talented children. Not really a farm system for the nfl. College basketball certainly is.

Another beef with it is these lame ass bowl games starting at 12 on a Wednesday. Who the fuck is watching that besides degens and alums. These bowl games suck. Plain and simple.

The rules suck because you only need one foot first of all..I don't think people realize how easy that makes it. And secondly the punts. You can lay in the end zone and save the ball from going in and still get it on the 1 yard line. The rules are made for talentless idiots. How can you possibly argue in the favor of those two rules. They suck. Even the one handed grab by the ND dude. My grandma is faster.

5 power conferences, and the best of the other conferences and two at large

bill simmons has best solution. 5 power-5 champs, 2 at large, and the champ of a new "group of 5" champions league. won't go into full champions league explanation would would have resulted in teams like WMU, UCF, Houston getting a shot at the big boys.

committee would still not have put any of those 3 teams (WM, UCF, HOU) in a 8-team playoff so it's a moot point if you just want to open it up to 8 teams...they would have still selected auburn ahead of ucf this year, fsu ahead of houston in 2015. in fact, you're actually going the wrong way by saying that teams like FSU and AUB, who couldn't beat Houston and UCF, should be in a 8-team playoff.

Bill Simmons' solution allows you all to get that one small school the opportunity to have their ass kicked in a setting where opponent is motivated if that is everyone's main gripe?

of course then someone starts bitching about being #9 or 10 or the second best team in the MAC....blah blah blah

Could not agree with this statement right here more....Betall you are spot on. The NBA has got to be the WORST sport to watch by far, NFL getting to be a close second with a flag/review every other play!

There is no defense. I respect being able to stop someone. That's sports. A great defender vs a great playmaker. That's sports.

Why is there tons of defense in college basketball but none in college football? They need to make it 1st and 20 to get a first down.....then it will be fair and intriguing

I don't care what anyone says. Nba players go hard, despite the perception. College basketball too.

Can't say the same for dumbass college football players. They see the wildcat formation and it's time to quit.

Nfl sees that shit for 1 season and it has never worked again. Lmao

The 8 team playoff makes TOO much sense. All 5 conference winners plus the highest ranked G5 winner plus the 2 highest ranked teams after that (those 2 teams CANNOT be in the same conference).

This gets determined after every conference plays a "championship weekend" the first weekend in december.

The quarterfinal games will be played at the home team's stadium (reduces travel so fans dont have to travel so much)

done and done

Yep, NBA players are the Biggest cry babies in all of Sports. Not even close !

and agree, they need to do something about all the flags and reviews

I said this last year, might as well call it Flag football

and why can't they Finish a review under 60 seconds ??
the tv stations will show the play at different angles under a minute, like within 30 seconds and that's what it should take the review

It is the antithesis of sport for the so-called champion to be determined subjectively.

Even prior to the Auburn win, there was only 26 (25 after the games the other day) teams of separation between UCF and Alabama as far as strength of schedule was concerned and that would be even closer had the Georgia Tech game not been canceled due to the hurricane (which may have cost GT a bowl bid too).

Is a 26 team variance enough to over look the 1 loss difference? Apparently it is if you are Alabama vs UCF. But apparently it isn't if you are Ohio State vs Alabama (where there was a much larger disparity in strength of schedule).

UCF won its division, Bama did not
UCF won its conference, Bama did not
UCF had 1 less loss than Bama
Bama has 25 teams of separation on strength of schedule per Sagarin

Ohio State won its division, Bama did not
Ohio State won its conference, Bama did not
Bama had 1 less loss than Ohio State
Ohio State has 35 teams of separation on strength of schedule per Sagarin.

So what measure did they use to decide that strength of schedule was worth an extra loss? If 25 teams of separation in schedule strength is enough to take a non division winner and leap them above a conference champion when they have an extra loss, why isn't 35 teams of separation in schedule strength enough to take a power5 conference winner and leap them above a non-division winner when they have an extra loss?

i'm sure Penn st is wondering the same thing about last year when Ohio st jumped them

I don't know how I'm wrong. Because why do I care about a unc/fla st college bball game on a Wednesday night but could give two fucks about a texas tech vs south florida. No money involved in either.

College football is an awful product. No one cares about those bowl games who gives a shit seriously

jeez im not gonna go look but 8-0 vs bowl teams is goddamn impressive. a few weeks ago auburn was playing the best football in the country and came up flat vs uga rematch, so i dont buy the they didnt care factor. i give ufc all the credit for that win, if they were in the playoff they would have the same shot as vegas pegged them vs auburn, probably 17/18 or so dog vs bama and 13/14 vs uga, obviously an underdog but not without a shot at winning. playoffs need to be expanded to give these smaller schools a shot bc they have shown over the years they can topple the big boys. this is a good read and a lot of great points made.

i am FU-KING THRILLED Frost is coming back home to nebraksa outside nick and urban they got guy to get in Frost if anyone can turn around the nebraska program its him and if he cant get them turned around the glory days of the big red are gonna be memories.

and like BAS said, thats what makes march madness so incredible the fact that the little guys control their own destiny, the best storylines every march are the cinderellas that make that improbable run, the butlers and george masons of the world. i know the title game monday is highly anticipated but can you imagine if it was an 8 teamer and UFC had won to advance, no one in the sports world would be talking about any other team except them and their next matchup in the semi's to see if they could shock the world again.

But people actually care about those basketball games and march madness. Same programs just different sports. But seriously who gives a shit about these bowl games and how and why. They suck.

College football and college hoops are polar opposites...

College football- best regular season in ANY sport. However the worst postseason

College Hoops- regular season stinks. However march madness is my favorite post season sport (mlb close 2nd)

March madness is one of the most watched sporting events in the country, it's absolutely incredible, especially the first weekend
