THE BIGGEST EDGE OF ALL. The biggest edge is, of course, when one team is going to employ vastly superior talent that day, in that game than is its preseason opponent. This situation can occur due to injuries, scheduling dynamics, or when one coach's determination for his team to emerge victorious is matched vs. another coach's semi-indifference. It rarely hurts to have the better-focused, superior players going for you in any contest, practice or not.

I always hear this but never see any results based on this theory. Can you provide some concrete numbers?

why botherwith pre-season. Its bad enough when a pro screws up and costs bettors money. why have a bet on and be dependant on some kid who will be back on a sandlot next week. 16 games + playoffs + college is betting exhibition really smart money management? its like betting baseball in sept between two teams who are out o it and are pitching rookie pitches. why bother. ace-ace looking forward to a good seaso you made last year fun. thanks heart 222

consider yourself a lucky and an enlightened gambler who will be here for a long time, counting profits not cursing 3rd string QB's.....

It takes a strong man to know what the hell to steer away from plus it sure as hell teaches you good gambling habits....You most probably wont ever find non preseason bettors at the craps table in vegas!!!

Blue Edwards: Good to hear from you again. I missed all the guys on this board since February. I'll try to make you some money again this year, but my biggest fear is jinxing myself by stating how good my record is in preseason.

Trashmonster: You are absolutely right in what you said. Those situations are the key to picking preseason winners. The hard part is determining in which games all of those situations are going to happen.

Ace: I'd like to do it. You can e-mail me at aol.com. Also last year you asked me about a contest that I play in every year similar to the Hilton contest. ($200 entrance fee) I can give you that info at the same time.

TRASHMONSTER:
My results for last year (posted on this board) using your criteria were:

4* 2-1 67%
3* 5-3 63%
2* 3-2 60%
1* 1-0 100%

I told everyone to vary their bets according to the number of stars. (Very important) I went 11-6 for the preseason. (a profit of 5 stars) But anyone betting according to the number of stars had a 13 star profit.

The 1 star game is just luck.

But the games with the higher number of stars reflect the strength of my handicapping. Although I look for 70% and higher on my 4 star games.

Time will tell if I could match last year's record.

ONE MORE KEY THING TO LOOK AT:

Consider team depth and unit rotations. If both teams are playing the starters for a very limited time, ignore their impact. In most preseason games, they’ll get the bulk of the media attention, yet if they are on the bench by the 2nd quarter, they won’t determine the outcome of the game. Injury reports are something of a non-factor as well. Find out what you can about the 3rd and 4th stringers. These are the players who will be on the field in the 2nd half, when the pointspread winners and losers will usually be determined.

ace is clearly one of the top 3 football cappers here on Rx

what i really appreciate about ace is that he teaches ya too; gives you an idea why he is playing teams in certain situations;

when ace is hot; i would not wager against him, even if the g is fixed..

THE 1ST GAME OF THE YEAR AND YOU WANT A EDGE ON A PRE GAME????

OK THIS IS WHAT I GOT SO FAR....I GOT A GUY THAT HAS GONE TO ATL TRAINING CAMP....THIS IS WHAT HE SAID::::
Start off with the Quarterbacking,
# 7 Michael Vick, Looking very well, apparently the bone spurs and shoulder problems are of the past. Vick hit about 95% of his passes thrown and was running and scrambling very well.Eluding the defense for 5 to 10 yards in a 7 on 7 line up. He's
looking good on the fake run as well. Throwing the ball hard and running fast, All in all I was surprised to see that Vick is playing extremely well in practice.

# 14 Ty Detmer, looking slow off the line, throwing short inside passes, nothing real long, and off the mark a little, the recievers were having to move to the ball more than turn and grab.

# 3 Bryan Randall, the new rookie QB, is looking very well a strong backup to Vick, if this man plays look for some good stuff once he gets comfortable on the field, throwing strong and running fast, good fake passer. Also he was back up to Vick in college so they should work well together.

All others,

# 83 Alge Crumpler TE, looking very strong and healthy, in the offense-defense drills, not once did anyone get around him, most hit the grass.

# 87 Romby Bryant WR, did well on fake routes, however only 50% on the long pass

# 15 Cole Magner Rookie WR, look for this guy to play well if he plays like he did in practice, great hands, catching overthrown balls with ease, jumping high and reaching far to make the catch.

# 17 Derrick Tinsley Rookie WR, I was not impressed with this guy, he missed a lot of his passes, and not a strong runner from what I have seen so far.

# 12 Michael Jenkins WR, not a strong show for the 2yr player, 50% on his catches, but running well.

# 89 Dez White WR, playing very well on the long pass

# 35 Jason Wright RB, looking well running the ball, no fumbles

# 28 Warrick Dunn RB, looking even better, no fumbles and fighting to stay on his feet

# 45 T.J. Duckett RB, playing well, hard hitting, no fumbles

# 38 Ronnie Heard S, this guy can take some hits

# 21 DeAngelo Hall CB, playing good defense, healthy

# 52 Jordan Beck Rookie LB, watch this guy, he was getting the QB 75% of the time, he is tough and hits very hard.

# 39 Carey Davis FB, This guy is gonna hurt somebody, hits extremely hard even after the takedown.

I'd say this was a very good practice, interesting to say the least, being that I'm an Eagles fan. The Offense was beating the defense 65% of the time on the pass, and the defense was beating the offense 50% on the run, there was an interesting fight on a play between # 45 T.J. Duckett and # 88 Mark Anelli, took about 4 other players and 2 coaches to seperate them, would have loved to know what that was about, but the whistles just kept blowing and so did they. The Defense isn't as strong as the Offense that I have seen so I can't wait for the next practice.
William

BEFORE I SAW THIS....I WAS THINKING IND....

THE ? IS HOW LONG DOES ONE PLAY IN A GAME THAT THEY DONT CARE IF THEY WIN.....ITS ALL ABOUT PLAYING AND SEEING HOW THEIR TEAM PLAYS

I HOW TO FIND UP BEFORE THE GAME ....HOW LONG VIC WILL PLAY IN THIS GAME.....WITH-OUT KNOWING.....FLIP A COIN....

WITH 64 PRE GAME AND 256 REG. GAME...DONT JUST BET TO BET...THERE ALWAY A ANOTHER GAME THAT YOU CAN FIND A EDGE ON....OR VALUE

ONLY TIME WILL TELL IF I CAN FIND VALUE IN THIS GAME....

The current preseason formula (for teams playing the common four exhibitions) goes something like this.

Game One--Starters go a couple of series or about one quarter; top backups into the second half; then mostly reserves, rookies and free agents the rest of the way.

Game Two--Starters go most or all of the first half; backups deep into the third (or early fourth) quarter; reserves the rest of the way.

Game Three--This is usually a team's main dress rehearsal for opening day. Starters play one-half to three-quarters of the game, backups most of the rest of the way; reserves see action depending mostly on the situation.

Game Four--This is often a "throwaway" game for coaches, who are usually much more concerned about their opening-day opponent than they are about this practice finale. Starters often play only a couple of series or so; maybe less; some maybe not at all. Any key players with nagging injuries will be held out. Backups and reserves play the majority of the game, with promising youngsters getting one final chance to win a spot on the roster.

TOTALS. Many handicappers like to play the "under" in early preseason games, figuring that the use of numerous quarterbacks, so-called "vanilla" offenses, and semi-predictable defenses will tend to produce low-scoring games. In 2003 that line of thinking was right, but not by much, as there were 8 "overs" and 9 "unders" in the first full week of the preseason plus the previous week's Hall-of-Fame game. However, during the last 9 preseasons, "overs" in the first one-plus weeks of the campaign lead the "unders" 87-78.

FOR ME....I WILL BET A FEW IN THE 1ST 3 WEEKS FOR THE ACTION,THE 4TH WEEK WILL BE THE WEEK TO KNOW WHAT GOING TO HAPPEN IN THE 1ST WEEK(THE GAMES THAT COUNT)....AFTER WEEK 2, I HOPE TO HAVE"MY LINE" KICK IN....THAT WHEN THE FUN STARTS

You have been misinformed about the first week of preseason ace-ace,

2004 the record was 10-5-1 counting all teams first game. UNDERS!

MAYBE THOSE ARE YOUR RECORDS FOR YOUR BOOK, I'M GOING BY NATIONAL MAGAZINE'S. GOOD LUCK THIS SEASON. HOPE I CAN HELP MORE.
