how should this prop be graded?

Hmmmmmmmm. This is a tough one.

Yet another example of why you have to be VERY careful when betting props. Make sure you understand the disclaimer! If there isn't a disclaimer, ask for one.

Troy Brown did *call* for a fair-catch. But he muffed it, so it wasn't a fair-catch.

Here is a baseball example. What if the prop was:

Who will be the first team to sacrifice bunt?

The Yankees have Jeter on 1st, 6th inning, nobody out. Bernie Williams puts down the sacrifice right back to the pitcher, they get a double-play.

Maybe not the best example, but you get the point. It *was* a sacrifice bunt, but it wouldn't be recorded as a sac bunt.

Carolina is winning wager

I'll give Olympic props (no pun intended), they usually do a good job on their disclaimers. They clearly state what is/isn't a winning bet.

I have a question on a different prop. In your opinion who had the last possession in the game. Carolina got tackled after receiving the kickoff for last play. Is taht good enough to warrant the last possession?

Lets take a look:

23. Possession: When a player controls the ball throughout the act of clearly touching both feet, or any other part of his body other than his hand(s), to the ground inbounds.

Last play of game:

4-A.Vinatieri kicks 68 yards from NE 30 to CAR 2. 32-R.Smart to CAR 22 for 20 yards (58-M.Chatham).

Smart obviously possesed the ball for 20 yards.

wil.

Thanks will. Unfortunately i think that is correct. Winning team usually has ball last but not this time. Appreciate the definition. At least helps put mental closure on it.

I guess the prop would have to read"First team to SIGNAL fair catch" for rule 3 to apply so I would have to say Carolina is the winner, unless there is a disclaimer.

Also, I agree team to have last possesion was Carolina because lets say Smart fumbles the kickoff and NE recovers, then they would have last possesion, even though time is expired.

And as far as the "Team to call first timeout", it should read"Team to be charged first timeout"

Most of these prop problems could be avoided if the books used one simple word:

RECORD

For example, first team to RECORD a fair catch.

If Carolina recovered the muff, it would clearly not have been a fair catch.

Winner as Brown called for a fair catch. No need to get technical.
