I think a wise parent should definitely use spanking in their parenting strategy. For example, you should spank the hell out of your kid the first time he/she does something inappropriate (preferably when they are little). After that there will be a fear of future spanking for future wrong doing planted in their mind. But as they get older and physically bigger, you should wise up and use reasoning and words to give advice to your kids.

The major problem with the spanking strategy is parents don't adapt and usually leads to problems when the parents try to beat up their teenage son/daughter and he/she might be taller than them and bigger than them.

I agree Value. Little kids can't be reasoned with by words alone so spaning is necessary in some instances. But as they grow older they can understand reasoning and other tactics should be used.
