Phaedrus is the central character of the book Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, a man who goes on a cross-country motorcycle trip with his son.
He was also a Roman philosopher (also known as Thrace of Macedonia) who lived in the first century AD, who coined several quotes still in usage (or in some variant) today:
"Judge of a tree by its fruit, not by its leaves."
"... to add insult to injury."
"Things are not always what they seem ..."
And finally, there was a Greek philosopher in the 5th century BC named Phaedrus, whose dialogue with Socrates is considered one of Plato's best works.
I've been using it as an online nym for about fifteen years, that or one of a very few variants.
