Just depends on what type of player you are. Everyone isnt a large player, and there are some books that's been around other than these 2 ........for example, someone who isnt a very big player and doesnt like paying transfer fees.....BetGameday has 2 free Neteller withdrawals per week, most books you are lucky if they give you one free per month.....just an example....

Look at it this way.

Say I for instance want to sign up with a book ONLY to bet the bases.

Do I choose a book solely because it has a better safety rating than another book? NO!

I weigh my options on the book that may be offering a 10-cent line or less and decide if it is worth the extra risk to play there if it is not considered to be as safe as the one offering the 20 cent line.

Now understand this------I have the oppurtunity to SAVE money in the shop offering a 10 cent line or lower than the TOTAL amount of money I will have posted up with that shop later on because I am withdrawing the winnings and leaving LESS in that shop than the money I would have lost in the shop with a 20 cent line!!!!

SO IN THEORY, EVEN IF THAT SHOP WENT BELLY UP AND I LOST EVERYTHING, I WOULD STILL BE AHEAD MORE THAN PLAYING WITH THE 20 CENT LINE SHOP!!!
RISK vs REWARD PRINCIPLE

I hope everybody understands this concept!!

Thanks for the great post, Fish. I agree with you. Now, the better you understand this concept, the better risk manager you become.

You can go form being a Lander to a Pinny if you analyze and understand what you just explained. Is it easy? For some it's easier than for others; but it's definitely attainable.

Walk, thanks for the interesting comments. I think I will give Cascade a try come baseball season. I'm always willing to try something new if a reliable person suggests it. How do you think I ended up at Panam!? LOL! But seriously you are right...no such thing as a 100% guarantee and you gotta take calculated risks. I'm still looking for a reason why I should consider Oly. If it's just safety I might as well just buy US government bonds or gold a la Phaedrus. I need something more than that.

The allurment of well worded posts by new managers/books is enough for some to join. Some want track records.

I've always said a player should look for a posting manager that is active on these boards. One that has been registered for say ~3 years or longer with no outstanding issues.

Jake @ sportbet/getabet is a good example. His problem is with staff on occasion. I've watched over staff before. I'll never do it again. I think Jake is a good guy.

And by the way, if it would hurt you to get stiffed by Pinny or Oly, you have a gambling problem and should seek help and never mind looking for lesser books that may fall before the big 2.

Risk/reward

..."allurment", is that a word or did I just invent one? I remember Lou Pinnella saying that about some word he blurted out. Lou is a funny man.

I'm always amused by the players who say stick to pinn and oly. I'd almost be willing to wager that most of us who play at the smaller "riskier" joints are far more profitable than thoe who stick to pinn and oly.

marc;

I agree with you. Now let me ask you guys something... if Oly and Pinny are so safe, why would you guys think of Holly and Grande -just to name 2-, which are shops taht book them both.
Somebody has to absorb the risk...

How do you guys know Pinny is the safest joint on the Earth? Hey, I'm not bashing them... I agree with you they're safe... but, how do you know? Marketing hype? Please guys, do some thinking on your own and understand the risk that EVERY shop on this planet has to manage. The more you understand RISK management for an arbitraging shop like Pinny, the better comprehension you will have on the matter...

Pinnacle has the most reduced vig and great lines and what pinnacle doesn't offer, Olympic sure as hell makes up for it. Olympic is my favorite book.
NO offense, but if you are trying to purport that you are a sI guess the there are a few reasons to play elsewhere:

1. Multiple outs -- Great reason. But how necessary are other outs when you have these 2 books?

2. Bonus whores - Pinnacle doesn't have the best bonus system. People who play at books JUST for great bonuses are really not looking at the long term.

3. Need a Change - Bad luck at Pinnacle and Olympic. You find it impossible to beat these 2 books, but you beat up on the Royal's and BeverlyHillsBookie's of the world.

I will stick with these 2 books. They are the only books I need.

No offense, but if you are really trying to purport that you are an individual with a high IQ and that you are a relatively successful gambler, you have got to be kidding me telling me that those two places are all you need? anyone who has done this for ANY length of time knows that you need at least 10 OUTS to have any chance to win over the long run. If I only had two outs, i would be too embarrased to admit it here because everyone would think i am a square. With only two outs, you have ZERO chance of winning at the end of the year. No wonder those places take such good care of you.

I like to keep my list of outs at around 5-7. I know I should be close to 10, but I simply can't afford to keep $$$ in that many places. Only 2, however, is simply not enough.
