UTEP +1.5

I am kind of hoping I am not falling into a trap because this line just boggles my mind??? This would actually be a much larger play if Santa Clara didn't fuck me last night. Fact is Santa Clara just isn't that talented. I can guarantee you Foster is not going to go off for 24 points again tonight. That was a once a season game for him, and the rest of the Bronco's offense that was red hot. They have struggled offensivley all season, and last night was just an enigma. Where I thought Belmont was as close to a sure thing as there was there talent level is no where near that of UTEP. The miners have two 20 point + scorers in Culpepper, and Jackson, but more importantly they have something that Belmont didn't. They have the meat to contend and bang with big John Bryant. Between 7 foot Kareem Cooper, 6'11 Arnett Moultrie, and 6'11 Claude Britten, they have enough bodies to throw at Bryant, who is the Bronco's only consistent form of offense. You can count on Bryant to give you 15 a night, while what Foster did last night cannot be counted on night in and night out. That's why i feel it is important that the Miners have the size to contend with big John Bryant. I am very low on the talent level this Santa Clara team has. They really aren't that good, and really had no business winning last night. Belmont was too dependant on the 3, something that UTEP does well, but doesn't live and die by. Jackson, and Culpepper are both true scorers, not just shooters. They have the athleticism to get to the basket consistently against the Bronco's. UTEP also comes into this game playing very good basketball. They have won 3 straight, all over good teams (Texas Tech, New Mexico St, and James Madison0. I expect them to do what Belmont couldn't last night...close out the game when they are up big

New Mexico St -1/-1.5

This is a team that has 2 faces pending where the game is being played. This is a team that plays a lot better at home. There home and away splits vs New Mexico, and UTEP, 2 non conference teams that they play home and home's with is demonstration of that. Last season they lost by 14 at New Mexico and won by 7 at home in Las Cruces. This year was more evidence where they dominated UTEP at home, and then just 2 weeks later got dominated by them in El Paso. This year looks like more of the same. They lost earlier at the Pit, and didn't look to good in the process. The main reason was they got dominated on the glass. In that game, there most important player imo, Wendell McKines, was contained only grabbing 5 rebounds. At 6'6 22lb McKines is the Aggies do everything player. He averages double figure points, but more importantly brings in 8.8 rebounds/g. If there is a loose ball, or a 50/50 ball, it is almost certain Wendell will come up with it. A high energy player such as him plays better at home feeding off the home crowds energy. i expect him to have a much better game, which should result in the Aggies extracting some revenge. Overall this is a extremely athletic New Mexico St team. They have 4 double figure scorers, including explosive scorers like Jahmar Young, and Josh Gibson. NMSU is the best 3 point shooting team in the WAC, something where playing at home will come in beneficial. If they can compete on the glass like I know they can I am pretty sure they will get the win. McKines has really been hitting the glass as of late, with double figure rebounds in 6 of his last 7 games. I think he will lead the way for an Aggie victory.

Wright St +3

This is more a feeling play than anything else. There isn't much statistically telling you to back the Raiders, but they usually play very good at the Depression Dome, and have seemed to turn things around from earlier in the season. They have won 4 straight in impressive fashion over some decent competition (So Fla, Murray St, Oral Roberts), and are winning with their staple defense. Todd Brown, a former all league player, and projected 1st team All Horizon, is showing some signs of life scoring in double figures his last 2 games. They are starting to get healthier, and if Brown can continue to re-find his game the Raiders should pull the upset. One place where they won't give away points is on the free throw line. They shoot 70%, compared to Clev St 64.9%. So in a close game that should be played in the 50's, and every bucket will be hard earned those few extra points can come in handy, especially when you are catching 3 at home in conference. You have to remember this same Wright St team was picked to win the Horizon earlier this season, and although they are missing some key players, they are playing much better, and have seemed to find their confidence. I am looking for a minor upset here.

Purdue -7
Purdue/Illinois Under 124.5

I am still very high on this Purdue team. They have lost 2 big games that were nationally televised against Duke, and Oklahoma so the buzz about them isn't that strong, but this team is going to be a tough out when it is all said and done. This is an excellent team that plays aggressive in your face defense, but also have 2 top shelf play makers in Robbie Hummel, and E'twan Moore. It is one thing to live and die with your defense, but it is another thing to have 2 players to compliment that defense with some scoring. I think this is where their advantage lies against Illinois. The Illini is also an excellent defensive team, but they don't have that go to guy, who you can count on to give you a bucket when you need one most. Purdue with their 35% fg def should be able to smother an inconsistent Illini offense. Purdue's defense is brought to another level when playing at MacKey arena. I expect Illinois to have a hell of a time scoring. Also the emergence of JaJuan Johnson should further cement this game. He big man has had 7 straight double doubles and is a huge presence in the lane for the Boilermakers. With his 6'10 size, and 2+ blocks a game he allows the Purdue defenders to smother their men without having to worry about them getting by for an easy bucket. He is like a safety net in the middle of their defense. Illinois really hasn't had too many good wins so their record is some what inflated. When it comes down to it tonight I just don't think they will have enough firepower on offense to keep this one close. I see Purdue in a blow out, and Illinois struggling to beak 50

Agree with you about home court, I think it does play big. Being selective about laying points on the road is a good idea and will pay off well in the long run. With you on UTEP, favorite play last night, not my best pick tonight but I like them again.

Lets get some winners today, on Purdue and Wright State so far, and likely to hit the rest later. Really love the UTEP play, might be my biggest play of the season up to this point.
