I'm a Gay Activist, and After Orlando, I Have Switched My Vote to Trump

This is the saddest day of my life. I can't even wrap my mind around the horror of what happened last night in Orlando, where 50 joyful dancing queers were murdered by a religious extremist. I'm sad -- devastated, in my soul -- about that; but I'm also sad that the events of Orlando have shattered my political beliefs, as I can no longer swear allegiance to a peace-love-and-unicorns progressive philosophy that only helps to get my fellow queers killed.

Yes, there is a war between religious fundamentalism and the spirit of love and tolerance. But we progressives here in America still labor under the delusion that the religion we need to combat is Christianity. But that's a strawman opponent, and has been so for decades. Since the 1990s, Christian extremists have essentially lost all their power, and are now toothless nonplayers in the "culture wars." Meanwhile, Muslim extremists, with guns, murder us, and on the left our only response is to bleat about "Islamophobia" and jump through hoops trying to explain away the self-evident religious motivation for the killings.

Oh sure, all year I've been playing the "Bernie or Hillary?" game with all the other default-Democrats in my social and professional circles. But this is no longer some kind of game. Our lives are on the line. Although I voted for Hillary in the primary, I now cringe inwardly with shame and embarrassment at having done so, and in November I will vote for Trump.

Why? Yes, I know that Trump is an a**hole, Trump is a clown, Trump is a motormouth buffoon. You don't have to convince me of that. But he's also the only person saying anything about putting the brakes on Islamic extremism, and in light of what happened last night in Orlando, suddenly that is the only issue that really matters when it comes to the health, well-being and safety of the queer community.

As an aside, Trump has never said anything homophobic, and has always gotten along well with the gay community in New York, so there's that in his favor as well.

I also now realize, with brutal clarity, that in the progressive hierarchy of identity groups, Muslims are above gays. Every pundit and politician -- and that includes President Obama and Hillary Clinton and half the talking heads on TV -- who today have said "We don't know what the shooter's motivation could possibly be!" have revealed to me their true priorities: appeasing Muslims is more important than defending the lives of gay people. Every progressive who runs interference for Islamic murderers is complicit in those murders, and I can no longer be a part of that team.

I'm just sick of it. Sick of the hypocrisy. Sick of the pandering. Sick of the deception.

And you know what makes me angrier still? The fact that I have to hide my identity and remain anonymous in writing this essay. If I outed myself as a Trump supporter, I would be harassed and doxxed and shunned by everyone I know and by the Twitter lynch mobs which up until yesterday I myself led.

I am ashamed. I am angry. And I am sad. I don't want to vote for Trump, but I must. And if you care about the safety of the gay community in America, so must you.

This is a very dark moment in America’s history.
A radical Islamic terrorist targeted the nightclub not only because he wanted to kill Americans, but in order to execute gay and lesbian citizens because of their sexual orientation."

On 12 June 2016 a mass shooting at an Orlando gay nightclub on Latin night led to national outrage and comment from many high-profile figures, including controversial remarks tweeted by Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump. The tragedy encompassed a number of demographics and social issues, including the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender), Latino, and Muslim communities. Groups representing all of those larger entities passed comment on the attack, and among the purported LGBT commentary was a tweetattributed to an unspecified LGBT group in Phoenix supposedly offering an endorsement of Donald Trump's candidacy:
As some viewers immediately noticed, the screen name of the Twitter account used an atypical "LBGT" abbreviation rather than the common version "LGBT." Others noted that a possible different iteration used a lowercase "i", capitalized to appear visually identical to a lowercase "l":
The tweet in question sent by that account rendered as if it were "LBGT Phoenix" and not "IGBT Phoenix" due to Twitter's lack of case sensitivity in handles:
Of note was the fact that both accounts' viral tweets appeared to be the first tweets ever sent by either account, as neither had tweeted prior to the Orlando nightclub tragedy nor evinced a Twitter presence before 12 June 2016. Moreover, subsequent tweets sent by those accounts primarily endorsed Donald Trump or criticized Hillary Clinton and scarcely discussed the tragedy's impact on all gay communities. The tweet got a visibility boost and air of authenticity when one was shared by actor Scott Baio, whose account is verified:
Baio later admitted that the tweets were of dubious authenticity, though others didn't suspect the tweets were likely fakes:

I don't know if @lbgtPhoenix is legit, however, ANY ONE that stops supporting @HillaryClinton 2support @realDonaldTrump will get mad props!
4:00 PM - 13 Jun 2016

On social platforms such as Quora, the tweets were immediately dismissed as fakes due to the age of the accounts and the spelling anomalies:
This is one of the most vile things I’ve seen. In the immediate hours after the worst mass shooting in American history at an LGBT club, an account is created that is purposefully meant to imitate an LGBT organization by using “Igbt” where the “I” is meant to spoof a lower case “l”. The first tweet this account makes is to make a political endorsement, purposefully meant to imitate a legitimate organization. The mindset of these depraved individuals was rather than mourn the individuals lost in the attack, it was to purposefully deceive individuals. It really shows the shame is no longer part of some people’s vocabulary. As to whether Trump should renounce it, the answer is “yes”. It’s completely clear that he won’t. He’d be more likely to congratulate on choosing him.
LGBT blogger Joe. My. God. addressed the brewing controversy, noting that the tweet was covered by the unreliable Gateway Pundit web site:
This afternoon [blogger Jim] Hoft gleefully reported the “breaking” news that a group called Phoenix LGBT has endorsed Donald Trump. As evidence of this endorsement Hoft posted a message from a Twitter account that was created yesterday. Not only that, the account’s profile oddly links to the Manchester, UK-based LGBT Foundation. The tweet below has been shared nearly 7000 times since Hoft’s posting.
The Gateway Pundit later updated their post to note that the accounts were created the day of the shooting but didn't acknowledge it was unlikely they were affiliated with any LGBT groups or people. Phoenix Pride, a legitimate organization with a Twitter presence dating to May 2009, disavowed the tweets in response to confusion from fellow users:

18h
Kim @DancinKim76

@PhoenixPrideAZ Do you have a comment on the new Twitter account (@LGBTphoenix) that apparently supports Trump? Their link is to a UK site.

That organization noted the only legitimate accounts representing the LGBT community in that city:
18h
✨brian @brianthesone

@PhoenixPrideAZ Please say something about this fake account using your name to pander their politics to LGBT peoplehttps://twitter.com/igbtphoenix/status/742079039557533696 …

Phoenix Pride @PhoenixPrideAZ

@brianthesone we are Phoenix Pride LGBT Center, not Phoenix LGBT. We dont endorse Trump. Only Twitter: @PhoenixPrideAZ &@PHXPrideLGBTCtr
10:14 AM - 13 Jun 2016

It remained unclear who was behind the pro-Trump tweets masquerading as LGBT (not LBGT) groups, but both accounts from which they issued were created after the Orlando shooting and contained no content relating to community issues in Phoenix prior to the shooting. An extant LGBT group in Phoenix has disavowed the tweets and confirmed that neither account was connected to the Phoenix LGBT community.

DONALD J. TRUMP ADDRESSES TERRORISM, IMMIGRATION, AND NATIONAL SECURITY

Radical Islam is anti-woman, anti-gay and anti-American.

I refuse to allow America to become a place where gay people, Christian people, and Jewish people, are the targets of persecution and intimidation by Radical Islamic preachers of hate and violence.

The immigration laws of the United States give the President the power to suspend entry into the country of any class of persons that the President deems detrimental to the interests or security of the United States, as he deems appropriate.
I will use this power to protect the American people. When I am elected, I will suspend immigration from areas of the world when there is a proven history of terrorism against the United States, Europe or our allies, until we understand how to end these threats.
After a full, impartial and long overdue security assessment, we will develop a responsible immigration policy that serves the interests and values of America.
We cannot continue to allow thousands upon thousands of people to pour into our country, many of whom have the same thought process as this savage killer.

Jake Tapper Jumps On Trump After WaPo's Press Credential Yanked

By Sara
t6/13/16 4:00p

14 hours ago by Karoli Kuns

Donald Trump continued to spew disgusting, offensive and patently false hate talk today, this time bashing all Muslims following the terrible mass shooting yesterday in Orlando at Pulse Nightclub.
Earlier today, Trump said: "For months, and despite so many attacks, [Obama] repeatedly refused to even say the words 'radical Islam'."
The attack came on the same day that Hillary Clinton came out and said, "Whether you call it Radical Jihadism or Radical Islamism I think they mean the same thing. I'm happy to say either."
Trump further insinuated that President Obama was a terrorist sympathizer! The nerve, the shocking gall to even suggest that our President would support extremism is treason, in my opinion.
Jake Tapper jumped on Trump hard. He pulled up a clip from this morning when Trump called into Fox News on his special gold-plated batphone and said this about the President:
"He doesn't get it or he gets it better than anybody understands - it's one of the other, and either one is unacceptable....we're led by a man that either is, is not tough, not smart, or he's something else in mind. And the something else in mind, you know, people can't believe it. People cannot - they cannot believe that President Obama is acting the way he acts and can't even mention the words radical Islamic terrorism. There's something going on. It's inconceivable."
What is he suggesting? That Obama knew? That he supports this? Tapper was all over this. He nails it when he says, "This was an allusion to a more nefarious motivation." Tapper went one step further and suggested that Trump clarify his statement.
The Washington Post jumped on that last comment of Trump's, leading to their press credentials being pulled by the the Trump campaign. an unprecedented move in a Presidential campaign.
This led me to consider what so many have been saying for months. Is Donald Trump truly a fascist? As a grandchild of Holocaust survivors who actually lived through Auschwitz and Bergen Belsen, I shudder to think that this is actually true. But, in the spirit of responsible journalism, I decided to do some in-depth research after this latest "quiet the media you don't like" stunt.

Political scientist Lawrence Britt compiled a list of the 14 characteristics of Fascism. As we look at Donald Trump's candidacy, it is worth looking at this list to see how far along he is in the full transition. Here we go:
1. Powerful and Continuing Nationalism - Fascist regimes tend to make constant use of patriotic mottos, slogans, symbols, songs, and other paraphernalia.
2. Disdain for the Recognition of Human Rights - Because of fear of enemies and the need for security, the people in fascist regimes are persuaded that human rights can be ignored in certain cases because of "need." The people tend to look the other way or even approve of torture, summary executions, assassinations, long incarcerations of prisoners, etc.
3. Identification of Enemies/Scapegoats as a Unifying Cause - The people are rallied into a unifying patriotic frenzy over the need to eliminate a perceived common threat or foe: racial , ethnic or religious minorities; liberals; communists; socialists, terrorists, etc.
4, Supremacy of the Military - Soldiers and military service are glamorized.
5. Rampant Sexism - The governments of fascist nations tend to be almost exclusively male-dominated. Under fascist regimes, traditional gender roles are made more rigid. Opposition to abortion is high, as is homophobia and anti-gay legislation and national policy.
6, Controlled Mass Media - Sometimes to media is directly controlled by the government, but in other cases, the media is indirectly controlled by government regulation, or sympathetic media spokespeople and executives. Censorship is very common.
7. Obsession with National Security - Fear is used as a motivational tool by the government over the masses.
8. Religion and Government are Intertwined - Governments in fascist nations tend to use the most common religion in the nation as a tool to manipulate public opinion. Religious rhetoric and terminology is common from government leaders, even when the major tenets of the religion are diametrically opposed to the government's policies or actions.
9. Corporate Power is Protected - The industrial and business aristocracy of a fascist nation often are the ones who put the government leaders into power, creating a mutually beneficial business/government relationship and power elite.
10. Labor Power is Suppressed - Because the organizing power of labor is the only real threat to a fascist government, labor unions are either eliminated entirely, or are severely suppressed .
11. Disdain for Intellectuals and the Arts - Fascist nations tend to promote and tolerate open hostility to higher education, and academia. It is not uncommon for professors and other academics to be censored or even arrested. Free expression in the arts is openly attacked, and governments often refuse to fund the arts.
12. Obsession with Crime and Punishment - Under fascist regimes, the police are given almost limitless power to enforce laws. The people are often willing to overlook police abuses and even forego civil liberties in the name of patriotism. There is often a national police force with virtually unlimited power in fascist nations.
13. Rampant Cronyism and Corruption - Fascist regimes almost always are governed by groups of friends and associates who appoint each other to government positions and use governmental power and authority to protect their friends from accountability.
14. Fraudulent Elections - Sometimes elections in fascist nations are a complete sham. Other times elections are manipulated by smear campaigns against or even assassination of opposition candidates, use of legislation to control voting numbers or political district boundaries, and manipulation of the media. Fascist nations also typically use their judiciaries to manipulate or control elections.
Now I am not going to come out and say that Trump is a fascist, but I am also looking at this list and it is pretty clear that he has checked almost every single box, except 11 and 14 (yet).
Today, he took the step of revoking the press credentials from the Washington Post, adding them to the long list of media that cannot cover him at rallies or speeches.
Here is his (not at all fascist) declaration:

We have five months to go until the election. How much more extreme will he get? Will he start making Muslims and Mexicans wear arm bands to identify them? Will he suggest we make camps to house them and remove them from society? Will I, a first generation American, be expelled?
Editor's note: Sarah may not be willing to call him a fascist, but I am. And he is. More evidence to come shortly. - Karoli

This Gay Man Is Leaving Hillary For Trump (Chico) hide this posting

Today I have made the most decision in my life. Never before would I have ever thought this day would come. As a lifetime Democrat, I have always voted and fought for the candidate who espoused my beliefs and defended my rights as a homosexual. Never again will I support the Democrat party, because at a time when the gay community needed them the most, they have turned their back on us.

A piece of my heart died this past weekend when a Muslim entered the pulse nightclub in Orlando with the expressed purpose of killing gay people. In the worst terrorist attack on American soil since 9/11, both Obama, and Hillary have been doing everything they can to blame everyone but the people responsible for the attack.

It was not the NRA, it was not a Christian, it was not a Republican, it was not some idiotic talking head on some radio station. It was an avowed Muslim who went into the club with only one purpose. He succeeded in murdering those I identify with, those I call friends, those I call brothers ans sisters. Yet, today I am told by those I trusted that it was not whom we all know it was.

I made a very important decision today, one that my friends an family will be shocked about. Today I decided to never again support the Democrat party. Why? Why would an avowed and proud homosexual leave the party to support Donald Trump? It's because at a time when the gay community needed them the most, they have turned their back on us.

As a lifetime Democrat, I have always voted and fought for the candidate who espoused my beliefs and defended my rights as a homosexual. I even voted for Hillary over Sanders in our primary. However, a apiece of my heart died this past weekend when a Muslim entered the pulse nightclub in Orlando with the expressed purpose of killing gay people. Not since Sept 11, 2001 has America been attacked in such a hateful way.

Since the attack, the Democrat party, including Clinton and Obama, have been doing everything they can to blame everyone and everything but the people responsible for the attack.

Sorry, but never in my life has the NRA killed 49 gay people at one time, never in my life has any Christians killed 49 gay people at one time, never in my life has any Republican killed 49 gay people at one time, never in my life has any talk show host from any radio station killed 49 gay people at one time, and never in my life has any other American killed 49 gay people at tine time. Yet, we has an avowed Muslim who hated gay people murder 49 succeed in murdering those I identify with, those I call friends, those I call brothers ans sisters.,

Yet, today I hear Democrats from all corners of the party point fingers at everyone and everything but at those responsible for this heinous crime. Plus I am told by those I defended and supported, that we need to bring in more of these animals into our country. So in the future I can expect more friends, more brothers and sisters, more people I identify with to be murdered because we all decide to be what we are. Mark my words, what happened at the Pulse nightclub, will happen again and again. Thanks to Hillary Clinton Obama, and the once great Democrat party.

So after many years voting for the Democrat nominees for President, and after much heartfelt consideration, today I have become a one issue voter, and that issue is to stop all Muslims who hail from any countries that espouses the death for anyone who is gay, from entering the United States. Plus I want those who espouse the death of anyone who is gay to be deported back to the country they came from. Thus, today I am a Donald Trump Supporter.

I have been very outspoken and critical of the gay-tranny lifestyle and flamboyant culture, but when I read these testimonies on social media... how gay people now fear for their lives...well, it's a little too much even for my 'homophobic' blood.

Nobody should have to live in fear, and yet this is exactly what these filthy Muslim pigs want to inflict on our society and way of life. The ISIS is now on record stating gays are their number one target. I shudder to think what that really means and how many people will have to die (straight and gay) before we wake up. The attack on the Pulse nightclub was an attack on us all, no less than the World Trade Center attack.

It's good to see gay people waking up to the reality that Democrats are nothing more than opportunistic wolves in sheep clothing who have no problem appeasing and coddling bloodthirsty Muslims, so as not to 'offend' another one of their special interests. Democrats simply don't have the stomach or moral fortitude for this war and will never do what is necessary to keep everyone (gays included) safe.

Hint: Once you hear the word "Islamophobia" you can bet that person doesn't get it, so consider them a political write off.

It all starts at the top:

"ISIL is not Islamic" - Obama :>(

Joe, I started to laugh when I read, Possible new GOP campaign slogan: We still don't approve of you tying the knot, but at least with us you'll still be alive!

Then I stopped laughing and thought that the essence of that statement applies to all Americans.

I thing for sure, there will be more attacks. It’s only a matter of time.
