You excited about the Mookie Betts trade savage? I know you are on record saying you would not have traded him for Trout. Does Verdugo work?
Since you asked a legitimate question politely, I will respond.
The answer is NO-I would have taken my chances with him this season until at least the trading deadline, see how he does, how the Sox do, and
then made a decision.
For a long, long time, I was against big inflated salaries, which is what Mookie will command when he does become a free agent.
However, considering John Henry is getting up there in years(70's) and since he is worth around three billion last I heard,
imo he sould not have traded him simply because of luxury tax, which is peanuts to him and because of fear that he will walk at end of season because
of his asking price.
In short the Sox are a cash rich team, and if Angels can afford Trout and offer a long term contract, then the Sox can do the same if he has another
very good season.
To be blunt, I am not in favor of trading a PROVEN franchise player from a team with whom he was instrumental in winning a WS.
Who knows how good Verdugo will be-unlike Mookie, he is unproven with the Sox.
To be fair and look it another way, I am not sure that even if they kept Mookie, they would be a legitimate contender this year-imo their only chance would
be to snag a wildcard spot and one game playoff as I believe Yankees are at least one level above them.
I sure hope that all Sox fans accept the notion that matters such as necessary rebuilding years apply to ALL teams including them, and that it is not a given
that Sox make the playoffs every year-they are big long shots to win it all for valid reasons.
Then again though we all remember what happened in 2013.
ps Sorry for going off on a tangent, but that's me.
