It started as a stunt to get more followers on Twitter, but NFL star Rob Gronkowski apologised yesterday after he posed for shirtless pictures with a porn star.
Gronkowski is one of the most popular New England Patriots players, but when the blonde glamour model, with almost twice the number of followers on Twitter, offered to raise his profile on the social networking site he could not refuse.
The 22-year-old tight end gave her his 87 Patriots jersey to put on for a photo and posed with her, before taking off his T-shirt and showing off his ripped body in a picture with the porn star.
But yesterday the athlete, who signed for the club in a $4.4 million deal last year, was apologising for the unwise snaps.
'I didn't intend anything to hurt the reputation of anyone on the New England Patriots or on behalf of Robert Kraft,' said Gronkowski, referring to the team's owner.
'It was just a simple picture, and that's all.'

After the incident she revealed that although she regularly sleeps with athletes, nothing had happened between her and Gronkowski.
'He wanted me to get him more Twitter followers,' she told Boston's 98.5 FM. 'He was very polite and such a gentleman. He wasn't a creeper or anything.
Gronkowski has 63,000 followers on Twitter, while Miss Jones has 110,000.
'Nothing happened. I wish something had, but nothing happened,' she said.

'I asked if I could have some pictures with him and he said, "Yeah, wait, put on my jersey." I said, "OK." We were taking pictures.
'I asked him if I could put it on Twitter because some athletes wouldn't want that since I do adult films, and they don't want to be associated with that.
'He was really cool with it because I have more Twitter followers than him.'
'I really, really, really wish it would have happened,' she added.
