what does hedging mean?

When you make a bet, but then put something on the other side, to either minimize your potential losses, or guarantee a smaller win than you would realize if you "left it alone."

i was thinking about it, texas -1.5 was around +280! with the apparent good pitching matchup i played it safe

hey guys i won half of my parlay (yanks -1.5) and i have the redsox pending, i am considering taking the juice of texas +2.5 so that if texas wins the game i break even anyway.

if the sox win by 2 or less i make the most money and if the sox win by 3 or more i lose a little... is taking texas +2.5 (hoping the sox win by less then 3) too risky?
