Evidence of Humans as Omnivores
Archeological Record

As far back as it can be traced, clearly the archeological record indicates an omnivorous diet for humans that included meat. Our ancestry is among the hunter/gatherers from the beginning. Once domestication of food sources began, it included both animals and plants.

Cell Types

Relative number and distribution of cell types, as well as structural specializations, are more important than overall length of the intestine to determining a typical diet. Dogs are typical carnivores, but their intestinal characteristics have more in common with omnivores. Wolves eat quite a lot of plant material.

If they are really calling dogs carnivores they lose all credibility. Dogs are omnivores through and through. And on top of that it goes into what they claim to be more important in judging diet but they don't give any specifics on how humans fit into this.

Fermenting Vats

Nearly all plant eaters have fermenting vats (enlarged chambers where foods sits and microbes attack it). Ruminants like cattle and deer have forward sacs derived from remodeled esophagus and stomach. Horses, rhinos, and colobine monkeys have posterior, hindgut sacs. Humans have no such specializations.

It is believed that our appendix could be this. We don't know for sure but it could have been lost in evolution. It easily explains why humans don't have this sac. Seeing as how we fit every other characteristic it makes sense.

Jaws

Although evidence on the structure and function of human hands and jaws, behavior, and evolutionary history also either support an omnivorous diet or fail to support strict vegetarianism, the best evidence comes from our teeth.

The short canines in humans are a functional consequence of the enlarged cranium and associated reduction of the size of the jaws. In primates, canines function as both defense weapons and visual threat devices. Interestingly, the primates with the largest canines (gorillas and gelada baboons) both have basically vegetarian diets. In archeological sites, broken human molars are most often confused with broken premolars and molars of pigs, a classic omnivore. On the other hand, some herbivores have well-developed incisors that are often mistaken for those of human teeth when found in archeological excavations.

This pretty much answers the teeth thing without me saying anything. We have teeth that are not even close to being sharp or long enough to tear through flesh.

Salivary Glands

These indicate we could be omnivores. Saliva and urine data vary, depending on diet, not taxonomic group.

:think2: This says nothing.

Intestines

Intestinal absorption is a surface area, not linear problem. Dogs (which are carnivores) have intestinal specializations more characteristic of omnivores than carnivores such as cats. The relative number of crypts and cell types is a better indication of diet than simple length. We are intermediate between the two groups.

Again they are lying. Dogs are NOT carnivores. This is basic stuff that you learn early on in science class. They are trying to prove a point off of a false pretense.

Conclusion

Humans are classic examples of omnivores in all relevant anatomical traits. There is no basis in anatomy or physiology for the assumption that humans are pre-adapted to the vegetarian diet. For that reason, the best arguments in support of a meat-free diet remain ecological, ethical, and health concerns.

[Dr. McArdle is a vegetarian and currently Scientific Advisor to The American Anti-Vivisection Society. He is an anatomist and a primatologist.]

I've been shown this many times before. And I've disproven this a million times. There is not one shred of evidence that backs any claims of humans being omnivores here.

NOTE: The bold text in the quote area is my response to each argument.

I'm convinced that you are either nothing but a troll getting his jollies, or someone who is so far out there that they've entirely lost any relation to the real world.

Did you really say that you thought that people who eat animals should be killed?

Yes, I said that. If you take a life you should have your life taken. I don't believe in a state issued death penalty because of all the flaws but I most certainly believe in death for those that are 100% guilty of stealing the life of an innocent being.

I'm a troll because I point out your hypocrisies? You fake liberals make me sick. You are more than happy to vote for a guy like Obama who voted for the revision of the patriot act, Biden who voted for the war and two people who will bow down to corporate pressure once in office.

You probably buy from the companies that exploit others to make their product. Shop at Walmart, Starbucks. Buy Proctor and Gamble and Nestle products. You're a hypocrite. It means nothing for the average American to claim that they are liberal, because they do nothing to back it up.

But you like to hear about cops being shot in the head?:think2:

Next you are going to say that all cops are bad.

You can't have it both ways. There are plenty of innocent cops, yet you want them killed, then should those peoples lives be taken for killing the Police?

I was saying that to piss of Texansfan. I have friends who are police officers and my GF's brother is a state trooper in Washington State and was a cop in New Orleans during Katrina. Not all cops are bad as individuals, but their purpose is bad. They are here and used to protect big business and the rich. Some naive guys, though with good intentions, get into it thinking that they'll make a difference. When I was arrested in '97 for the ALF actions a cop that I knew was one of my biggest supporters. He and his wife gave money towards legal fees, he gave me one of those cards to get out of traffic tickets. He used to come to protests. But then you have right wing kooks like Texansfan who supports police brutality, is racist and thinks that the police are above the law.

If it were entirely your choice, who would you pick to be president?
Where do you shop and whose products are you ok with?
Are you also an enviromental extremist, or is your entire focus on animals?

I cry because I'm a well informed, and well educated person? I'd be more sad if I were a mindless sheep like yourself.

Anyone that thinks they can beat craps is moron. You can say all you want about how smart you are, and it all means nothing. I don't care how many articles you've read that were written by nutjobs. So don't go talking about facts.......you can't even see mathematical facts. So please shut the fuck up.

Your first question, I don't know. Honestly I think the way things are set up it would be tough for the most left thinking person to make a change with the way things are right now. I'd probably lean towards the Green party if I had to make a choice.

As for where I shop. The honest answer is that I don't do a lot of shopping. When I do I'll seek out stores that are locally owned or at least do the most for the community that they are in. Be it charity, or if they pay good wages and benefits. The sad thing is that most locally owned stores have gone away due to your Walmarts and Targets. I will shop at Target because they do stuff for the towns they are in but when I do I look for products made as close to home as possible.

As for your next question. If an extremist is someone who actually wants change and a difference being made then yes, I'm an extremist. The environment is what sustains life for every living being so it would be crazy for me not to work for the environment as well.

I can read, write, form logical opinions based on factual data. You're so stupid that you don't even realize that you just shot yourself in the foot with this statement. All you did is read a book that told you that you are supposed to lose $2 for every $100 risked and that is what you go from. You are a prime example of someone who reads (or in your case listens since all you do is watch tv all day) and then repeats what they are told.

Get real. Nobody listens to you, because you have no credibility. You let all of us know your mental capacity, so keep reading your literature and stick with your cult of tools.

Still can't understand the mathematics of craps? Geez, you're dumber than I thought. I only spelled it out for you 6 ways to Sunday.

An extremist being someone who holds extreme views, I'd say you qualify. An environmentalist is someone who is a good steward of the planet we inhabit...an extremist would be someone who would chain themself to a tree so it couldn't be cut down. I think that would be your approach...just a guess.

They're animals raised to be slaughtered. Get over it.
