Mack Brown and Texas went 9-3 ATS in the regular season last year. I think Mack Brown should be added to the "coaches i like" list. I mean they went 7 consecutive weeks winning ATS. I know that GS had Texas against OU in the red river shootout and rightly so. Texas went up against what we now know was a pretty damn good OSU team and the debacle against Tech goes without saying. But i like riding Mack Brown against weak non-conference foes who don't know how to handle a premiere spread and better athletes. And against the weaker fish of the big 12.
I like Mack Brown. But there are a lot of coaches that I'm just neutral about. And he's one of them. He did have a good ATS season this year. But that's not always the case with Texas. The bottom line is Texas is a school with a lot of money and some top notch facilities. They have nationwide influence and are able to pay the big money to bring in the bigtime assistant coaches to help Mack Daddy out. I'm not saying just anybody can coach that position. But I can tell you that considering the kinds of players that are recruited to Texas, Mack Brown in his 11 years should have won more than two Big 12 titles. So although I like him, I can't put him under my greatest coaches file.

June,

I'm not in the business of touting one conference over the other. I'm in the business of making money betting on college football. All I did was state facts, and the facts are bob stoops went 10-2 ats and mack brown went 9-3. Be my guest in finding similar stellar records ATS during the 2008 season. Once again, which conference is better than which means nothing to me, what means something is who is going to cover the # on a consistent basis on Saturday afternoons. Just stating facts June, facts your having a hard time contemplating I guess.

We need an unbiased mediator to analyze this just "stating facts" claim you're bringing to the table these days...I wouldn't count on the big 12 being as bettable next year, things change and hopefully teams bring their defenses.

I didn't like seeing you compare ATS records of pete carroll vs coaches from the big 12. petey's above them both and in a better conference. It's the off season, thought I'd light the fire a little bit. And yes, you do tout the big 12 to be above everybody else, please don't kid yourself

Add Bill Stewart (WVU) to the bad list. Watch that program nose dive now that Pat White is gone.

I don't it considering that WVU just had the best recruiting class they have every had, and the group of asst coaches they have are outstanding (especially on D).

Typical biased point of view from a Sooner who has his head up his ass. Seriously dude? Who cares about Big 12 titles. Match the National Titles up between "Mack Daddy" and Bobby and tell me who's ahead in that category? Neither. And Ohio State and USC don't have all the resources? Not putting Mack on that list is for other reasons.....you're funny. You're actually starting to show your bias, which isn't too good for your "handicapping".

Pete Carroll kicks all these guys asses. But reading that list again, and especially the honorable mention, and not including Mack Brown, who has like 10 straight 10 win seasons is absurd....or was written by a Sooner. Seriously.

Go ahead and look up career ATS records too...you'll be astounded at what you find.

I am not a college FB guy but I can tell you Bobby Bowden is a fucking dummy. Some coaches are more or less figure heads ( Bowden) where as some are in the nitty gritty of the play calling and have their hands on the game ( say Urban Meyer). Bobby doesn't know his head from his ass and I think that takes away from your head coach when he has to completly rely on his assistants.

I am a big Nick Saban fan. I thought he was going to be a good NFL head coach and I will argue with anybody that he did better with the Miami Dolphins than he got credit for. The team did go 1-15 the year after he left, and his schedule was brutal for the short years he was there ( he did manage to slay the Patriots though).

After reading Michael Lewis's book " the blind side" it confirmed a lot about Saban. Lewis portrayed him as a super smooth recruiter that sold Michael Ohler's mom very well. Then they talked about that dumb redneck Phillip Fullmer and you wonder how Saban would lose even a single recruit to him.

I think Tressell, Pete Carroll and Urban are all very good coaches but add Saban too.

Sadly, I sort of but Joe Pa in the Bobby Bowden role too.

and my take on Charlie Weiss

I think the guy is just in over his head. He just strikes me as so disorganized. You see humdy dumpdy waddle off the field at halftime and the reporters run to ask him questions and he just seems like he's thinking too hard and can't focus.

I think his fat body goes along with that disorganized, in over his head look he comes off as.

Art Briles will be the hottest coach in the country after next season. Mark my words. He's a badass.

certainly agree with Wannstache and Weis on the "DO NOT BET" list, followed closely by Randy Shannon. I wouldn't touch Kiffin either as he is in way over his head and has too big of an ego to see it.
