Thanks for the compliment....I have to say that i was leary about getting a preso after all the flak in San Fransisco, but after raising her for 2 years I have found them to be very inteligent and obeidiant...but can rough house with the best of them. The breed dates back to the 16th century. Following the conquest of the Canary Islands it is theorized dogs of great size may have existed or were brought there by the Spanish Conquistadors or possibly both. What is known was the function for which these dogs were developed; guarding farms, struggling with cattle and the extermination of wild or stray dogs.
I live near a wooded area in Katy, TX outside of Houston and have lots of cyotes living near by, Roxy even intimidates a few that she has come acc****. But most people that meet her for the first time are scared to death....people will just cringe in fear when they see he...but thats not why I got her. In fact here is a great site that has alot if info on the Preso Canario...they sold me mine.

http://www.showstopperkennels.com/presaGallery.htm they are in NJ.

To everyone that has posted with their replys..thanks. I have a feeling that Taz is a mix of a pit and red lab..JMO.

Love Presas. I have a pair of them; great animals, very loyal and gentle with kids yet will remove the last 1/3 of the arm of anyone acting in a threatening manner towards me or my family. Fun to play with ... wear gloves if you play tug-o-war because you will get rope burn when they decide to stop letting you win.

As for your other, I agree with max1234 -- definately a terrier, maybe Staffordshire or pitbull, mixed in with something else.

Kiss1 have got two shitzu!s , one looks like a twin to yours. I have had three of them and they cannot be beat. The other dog definitely has a large amout of terrier or pit bull. The dogs that are rescued are the best kind,i think they realize this may be there last chance Thanks BuddyM
