When I had my gas stove installed about 8 months ago, I called the store because it smelled like gas during the first use. It wasn't a strong odor, but just a hint of it. They said this was normal and should subside after a few uses. I took some soapy water to the fittings and line and saw no leaks, so I let it be. It ended up being just fine, so I guess it is normal to have a gas smell in a new range for a short period of time.
