3 varieties the, largest growers are in the back row..
Ended up rototilling 3/ 5 gallon buckets of pea gravel in the bed for drainage.
Got the soil temp up and it's dried somewhat. Temps here haven't been over 60 so far this year.
Added a half rain fly on the wind side of the hoop house and 2 guy wires for stability from the peak at both ends. Most likely will keep this tented all summer if the rains don't chill out soon.

It's looking a little sad but at least it's planted..

I don't care about the weed. But that raised bed looks to be full with leaf and grass compost with a layer of manure spread on top (sheet and horse mix?)

Them weeds are gonna grow!

Yeah I know, you grow real tomatoes ...if you can post them.
It's old grass, dug some of it out but removing all the roots I would have lost too much good soil... no manure, some compost but not much and it's mixed deep..it's great soil, just too wet and hadn't been worked for a few years.
I have a weeding blade.. not too worried the grass but you are right , it'll be a bit of a fight.

Hope all is well.

full disclosure ..the hoop house got wrecked by a 68 mph wind ..could be done with tomatoes for the year.
got the sheeting back on but it's doubtful it'll hold till late tonight... a few plants got bent over at 90 degrees..snapped the guy wires and all.

major bummer but whatever the weather here is nuts..nothing like last year.

Special Weather Statement

Until Sat 9 pm PDT
1 of 2

Action Recommended

Avoid the subject event as per the instructions

Issued By

Portland - OR, US, National Weather Service

Affected Area

Central Oregon Coast

Description

...A sudden burst of strong west winds late Saturday afternoon into Saturday evening... After breezy south winds along the central coast of Oregon this morning, a temporary lull in the winds may develop this afternoon as a low pressure approaches the coast. Do not be fooled into thinking the winds are over when this happens. Unusually strong west to northwesterly wind gusts of 40 to 55 mph will likely spread into the area suddenly late this afternoon or this evening...mainly along the Lane County coastline and adjacent higher terrain in the Coast Range. Isolated tree damage and power outages will be possible given the unusual wind direction and deciduous trees being nearly fully leafed out. Boaters on the Siuslaw River, particularly near Florence and the mouth of the Siuslaw River should be prepared for rapidly deteriorating conditions late this afternoon or evening. These strong winds will likely push farther up the river than what is typical and could extend upriver of Mapleton.

Gale Warning

Until Sat 11 pm PDT

Still working it out..had to rebuild the hoop house with new hip board with a batten top ,i stretched plastic tight..i gave up on the PVC clips... The soil is dryish but cool... we will have our first + 60 degree weather of the year tomorrow but just for one day , inches of rain this last weekend and another storm starting Thursday
I'm still hopeful but a few other people around here with weed gardens have thrown it in with root rot and nutrient lockout. I might get boned basically if this weather doesn't change real soon.

In 25 gallon pots, I will top the potted ones in a week or so to keep them bushy.
Been adding calcium carbonate to help the soil PH..its been way too wet and cool here to grow without the Hoop house keeping the soil dryish. Anything in the ground is way behind but perking up a little.

Doctor Brendanjack! Man I wish I knew all that stuff to grow my veggies. Can't even get the watermelon starters to take. The little roots are rotting. Think there may be a fungus nthe same soil where they grew great last season. Tricky business - growing stuff. You and Bozzie have it down.
