I'm just saying it should be a factor in adoptions along with many other factors.

Unfortunately, children can be very cruel to their peers and having "two daddys" is cannon fodder for school age ridicule.

Having a child is certainly a difficulty gay males face that lesbian couples do not. This also feeds the argument that homosexuality is unnatural.

Just out of curiousity, does anyone know if it is legal for a single man or single woman to adopt children?

I'm sure it doesn't happen that often, but I'm positive someone has tried.

Most adoptions are up to the birth mother these days ... once a couple has been approved (their credit ratings, references, criminal backgrounds, etc. check out ok) then they begin the process of hoping that the birth mother(s) like them best. So, whether or not gays will adopt will most likely be dependent on how they are as people, and/or the opinion of their unique situation as held by the mother.

One's parenting abilities are hardly defined by their sexual orientation. How many really awful straight parents do you personally know?

The simple way to get out of all this mess is to make marriage no longer a legal definition. Being a registered couple of two adults is what the law should base their issues on. Marriage originated in the church and it should remain there. In that way we wouldn't have the government even referring to marriage, but civil unions or whatever and all those people so bent out of shape by gay marriage could stick to a church that never allows it.

Yeh Funk,

I know of a single lady around age 45 who adopted a darling little girl. Overseas adoption mind you, with a payment to the birthmother and attorney. Legal and all though.

bill,

I said that earlier in the thread. Though I would not even be in favor of "registered couples" as you put it.

The law should view all adults as individuals. There should be no legal recognition of marriages, couples, unions etc. That goes for taxation, health insurance, pensions etc.
