I feel you Hines. I grew up with the only idea in my head being that after high school I would go to the University of Washington and be a Husky. Hit 1240 on the SAT, 3.7 GPA, and the admissions chick told me "You have a 99.9% chance of getting in, so don't worry about it." Applied to FSU as a backup as two cousins had gone there, and got accepted within a month. By the time I got my "last chance" type letter for FSU I still hadn't heard from UW but figured it was in the bag so I tossed it out. Two weeks later I get my rejection letter from UW. Off to community college I went for a year and a half before transferring to Gonzaga. Never thought I'd be happy watching the smoldering ruins of a once mighty football program at UW, but I'll be damned if I don't love it. Nevermind the 20 point beatdown by my Bulldogs this year, mushrooms or no. Currently working on my Masters from GU and hoping I can figure out what to do with my life. Keep that chin up and remember an often used phrase: "Fuck 'em"

Thanks for the kind words guys. I've cooled down some now. It's just crazy how opinion changes from college to college. I probably shouldn't be bitching but I was fucking furious last week. UGA was by far my clear cut #1 and now I have to choose between South Carolina and Alabama. But from what Ive read on here it sounds like what happened to me is not too uncommon. Oh well.

BigPig, are the girls at Bama as hot as the girls here in Tally? That would be crucial.

I'm fairly sure the bashers on here are folks WITHOUT college educations. Even though I must say that Hines has absolutely done as little as possible to get his 3.6 (if he applied himself, he'd probably be a 4.0 student and we both know it), the dude is probably one of the 3 smartest people I've ever met around out age... way smarter with way more credentials than I, and I was also one of the brainiacs in high school. Of course, I slacked my ass off in college and am dragging my sorry as to a 3.2ish GPA.

Hey man, let's take a roadie up to Athens so you can take a dump between the hedges... just like you did on top of the highest point in Florida two years ago...

You know me Guru. I'm more than game my friend. Pick the time and place and I will shit all over the UGA statue in front of the stadium before writing either GO COCKS or ROLL TIDE on it. Bitches.

You definitely need to write GO COCKS on there one way or the other... any chance you get to take a shit on a statue and then spray paint GO COCKS on it, you have to take the opportunity. Chances like this only come once in a lifetime... fuck college allegience.

I feel for ya, acceptance into most grad schools is about who ya know and who ya blow. No way in hell i should have got into the MBA program where i did when i did, but i knew people. Well not really, ill be honest - my mother worked at the school. Simple suggestion to you is to find some random alum from school you want in and get a letter of rec. If you grades are already that that'd seal the deal. Hell, offer a simple bribe - the decision makers in these situations are paid shit at most schools. Yes, Im serious.

My fondest memory of my undergrad recruitment was getting a phone call from Tulane as a sophomore in high school and them trying to sell me on the fact that 18 is legal drinking age in New Orleans. So i begin practicing right away.

Athens is a GREAT college town. Had a friend that worked at the airport there for a few years and got to spend a lot of time there, it rocks - much like Knoxville. I can understand passing on prestige academic schools for a football school. One of my biggest lifetime regrets to this day is not going to UT. Much like you my college choice also had a female factor that backfired

Dont get mad and give up, surely if your from GA then you or your family knows someone, somewhere that can help. Pay no attention to dates/deadlines, those are bullshit and mean nothing. Its not too late to still go to UGA , assuming you plan to go next fall. Good luck man, hope it works out.

the girls here can be described with one word "amazing" if it comes down to the girls, the only college town i have ever visited that had prettier girls is Ole MIss. Come to bama. you will not regret it

Hines, I jumped through many of the same hoops in the Canadian Univesity circus to obtain my Masters Degree. In the end I went to a graduate school that was not my first choice but once I got out I realized that it didn't really matter. I took a job in my field (Mechanical Engineering) on the ground level that was low paying but I proved myself in the real world. Getting your foot in the door is important and the school you go to may matter at first but believe someone who has been there, it's what happens in the next 10 years that will define you. Get your Masters degree regardless of how succesfull the school's football program is and then establish yourself.

Everyone I talk to says not to get MS in ME but to go work in the real world. From your reply I assume you are implying the same thing?

I was just thinking of going now for controls while I'm in school mode otherwise I'll probably never go back :lolBIG:

I always get a laugh when people here post thinking they are among the few that have a degree.

Hell, I wouldn't be shocked if 20% of people ages 25-40 in this country have some sort of watered down bachelors' degree.

Ahhh...the infamous "if he applied himself" excuse. Well, if a frog had wings, it wouldn't bump its ass either.

Then the post proceeds about someone being way smarter then another and taking a dump between the hedges at Athens.

Come on guys...you will survive at another grad school, so it's not the end of the world.

Win some, lose some.

Thanks again for all the contributors to this thread. I know to some this may sound whiny (and somewhat is), but when I got that rejected letter I was extremely furious and needed a place to vent. Alabama will 90% be my choice now after hearing from some others in this thread and if the campus is as nice and filled with lovely women as I'm hearing then I will enroll immediately after my visit. Thanks again to all

fwiw a good friend of mine from college didn't get into UGA law school on her 1st try. She actually went to the University of Alabama and later transferred to UGA after her 1st year. Something to keep in mind.

Just view it as UGA lost a great student and go to another school and make their program equal or better than UGA.
