I have always been under the impression that as stated by NC itself, that they NEVER announce the Bowl GOY in advance of the day it is played.
If the GOY is Texas A&M, that would be negated as that game is tomorrow.
Also there seems to be some discrepancy on whether the 3* is OVER or UNDER in the NW game.

Not sure I understand you, but all I know is that every year I have followed NC including this year(until now) they have always hyped their BOWL GOY with
the caveat that they never announce in advance when the game is going to be.
That is why I am surprised that they are stating today on Friday that the game will be tomorrow.
The reason that they have done this over the years is to try to get people to sign up for a Bowl package, which costs more than the game itself
to get more money.
Today on comp. line it is stated that the GOY costs $100, but for $149 you can get FES for both days for a total of $149.
Maybe the reason for change is because as you say New Years falls on the start of a holiday weekend.
