The Blue Jays had Thursday off while the Astros were forced to play a doubleheader at Minnesota before getting on a plane, going through customs and finally getting to their hotel. Okay, advantage Toronto.
But that’s about the only advantage I see for the Jays tonight. Francisco Liriano is having a terrible season, and while his first start for the Blue Jays was tolerable, it also was far from outstanding. On the flip side, rookie Joe Musgrove has made an immediate impression since being called up and it looks like he’s going to be sticking in that Houston rotation as more than a fill-in due to injuries.
I also can see the Astros being mentally fresh and full of fire after what took place the last couple of days against the Twins. Houston was on its way to what might have been a lopsided loss on Wednesday night. The Twins were up 5-0 in the third inning, the Houston defense was AWOL, and Dallas Keuchel was getting ripped. But Mother Nature intervened with a rainstorm that wouild not let up, and the Astros got off the hook with the game not having gone 4.5 innings.
That likely loss turned into a runaway Thursday win, and the ‘Stros followed that up with another blowout to sweep the twinbill. Combined score of the two games, 25-9. That’s called positive momentum for a team that really need a good jolt, and I think there’s a great chance it carries over tonight. I’ll personally be playing the F5 here as well, as the Musgrove/Liriano matchup is very much to my liking, and F5’s are good bets if the starting pitchers are the key. In any event, the Astros are the choice to kick this series off on a winning note.
